Airbag light is on - code is 31 -T100

1996 t100
2.7 4cyl 5sp

My truck has the airbag light always on, I checked the code and it is 31 - Center Air Bag Sensor Assembly Malfunction.

I little research suggests that replacing the airbag ECU (Control Module). Has anyone had this issue and fixed it without replacing the control module?

Where is the Control Module located on the 96 T100?

I've found several used ones online (junkyards), but want to make sure I get the right one. Does it matter if the unit is coming from a truck that has a different engine or other variables like auto vs manual etc.?

Is this a pretty easy (plug and play) replacement?

Do you have the Factory Repair Manual for your T100?

I have one for a 2002 4Runner which is similar electronics wise, but may not be exactly the same.

While I almost never suggest just replacing a control module (in this case, the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly), this code is pretty limited to supply power, ground and the Center Airbag Sensor Assembly itself as to what the problems could be.

Below is the test procedure for the 2002 4Runner, which looks similar to the procedure described in a few posts I read for T100s. If I were you, I would want to confirm where the pins IG2 and ACC are located on your T100 before proceeding with the following test!
