94 yota turn signals/hazard not working

Have a 1994 toyota (obviously) Pickup. The turn signals and hazards all quit working at once. All the other bells and whistles seem to be working. I have checked the fuse and it was good. I also replaced the flasher relay under the dash and that didnt seem to help either. Need some help with this. Tired of holding my arm out the window to signal for turns.

Obliged to help.

Obliged to help because you know how to, and that you should, manually signal.

Test for power to the fuses yet?

Think the horn would be the quick check, if it works then have power to at least one of the required fuses.

Next stop is the hazard switch. Power in on 8 and 10. Power out on 7,.
to the flasher ground on 3.

Yes I do have power to the horn. It seems the only thing in the steering column that doesn't have power are the turn signals. I thought it may be the switch in there but then noticed that hazards not working which is located on the dash.

Not sure I understand your numbers on the hazard switch.

Sorry can't post photos right now..

Locate the plug in the harness. And probe voltages and grounds in the harness side. Also probe the switch side for continuity and chart the results.

Someone can maybe provide an image, or you'll need to take and post a photo so we have a shared reference.

OK. Sorry I am a bit noob on in depth electrical. Where is the harness that you speak of. I am married so I can understand explicit instructions. LOL.

Something I need to add... So we had a "car audio company" ( I put that in quotes because in looking at the work they do it appears to be some guy with a garage) install an amp. The truck is actually my sons but I drive it when the weather is bad and he drives my camry that has studs all the way around. Anyhow, we had these guys install an amp. Well when we left the dash lights weren't working. Then a couple weeks later the stereo stops working. So he took it back in. They forgot to plug the dash lights back in. They said his stereo was going out (which i don't believe these guys). But when he left he went to turn on the blinker. It clicked once then nothing. So i obviously thought fuse. But it wasn't. Everything else is still working (lights, stereo, amp, etc).

It's probably the switches, but I don't swap out parts without testing them generally..

You should have power on the first three pins I listed, 8 10 and 7 of the switch, You should have ground on pin 3 of the relay. These are base line checks, once we've established the power circuit is intact and correct (for the most part) we can move on to the switches logic flow.

just for completeness (for those who find this thread by layer searches) make sure you have grounds on one pin of the plug at lamp in question.

Ew, new plan! Is it fully insured, and do you know how to operate a match book? Bwahaha :jk

Let's start with a quick question / lesson. There is a distinct difference between the click of the switch indexer and the flasher relay, does the operator know the difference?

Next a rant, if they left things disconnected the burden of proof is on them that they did not short out the new stereo and they are obligated to pay the replacement bill for parts and labor for a new installation by a company of your choosing. Check your receipts and warranty slips, aswell as local regulations.

OK back to diagnostic mode. Battery voltage is above 11-12 volts? Make sure all the plugs under the dash are clean and secure. Do you smell anything that could maybe be overheating or burnt wires.

ps, it's OK to shame the company a little, it's very OK to shame the "installation technician" who performed the botch..

It's probably just unplugged at the hazard switch, shaken loose by the curb threshold as he pulled out of the lot or the click here heard was just the switch..

Get eyes on it, it's located behind the switch, left side of the center console all the way at the top.

Edit: yes the hazard switch.

Yeah I am very frustrated with them. I am also frustrated that I couldn't take off from work to be over there with him when they were "checking things out". So do I need to take the dash housing stuff out from around the switch to get to the connector? Would this cause the blinkers to not work also?
He said that the blinker came on for a second then just went out.

Not certain off hand what all needs to be removed to get to that plug, it's definitely at the very top and not an easy spot. I will poke around and see what I come up with,u nless someone else has a suggestion or photos and a walk thru.

In the meantime time let's short cut and test for power and ground at the flasher relay. It has three pins, one power (#2), one ground (#3), and the last one runs to the turn signal switch (a 13 place black plug) located on or just to the right of the steering column

You mean you got eyes on it and it's hanging there disconnected? Ugh

Power up pin #2 of the relay, green wire I think. It has green power input, black stripes white wire to ground, and a red striped blue wire to the turn signal switch.

I haven't had time to hunt up a screw diagram to get the dash opened. I think the 94s you work across from the right hand side but that whole center section comes out.

PS you got lucky if is all that's wrong, plugs disconnected.. The last time I had to chase a bad install I really meant it when I told the guy to torch it and he seriously considered it.

Dash disassemble, left to right

I was backward, it's left to right. Approx 15-20 screws

No I found the plug for the flasher. Its a little black box down by the steering wheel under the dash. I replaced that guy and it didn't help. Or are you talking about the plug that plugs in under the column with all the wires that go up into the steering wheel. This has all the wires for the horn, headlights, etc. I unplugged that yesterday and plugged it back in just hoping it may do something. It didn't.

The hazard switch, provides power to the flasher, which connects to the flasher switch.

I think it was the last one you found, the 13 pin black one?

Way above that directly behind the hazard switch is an orange 10 place plug.

Looking upwards from the ebrake, there are three plugs roughly in line with each other. The clock, the defog, and then the hazards it's that very top one I expect for left loose also.

Oh sorry. No i haven't found the Hazard switch yet. I was focusing on working from the blinker side of things. I will have to see if I can find that one. It is freezing cold here so it may take a while. LOL.

Turn signals don't work, but hazards do

Not sure where to look, I've tried looking at the physical switch on the steering column, but I'm not too electrical savy, i tried looking for specific fuses or relays but I'm not sure where they might be, i might also be slightly restarted…
