94 brights lighting question/problem

what is the deal?? When I push the lever forward on my ext. cab 94 to put the brights on the ALL the lights shut off and its as dark as the night. I have to pull the lever all the way back in order to get the brights to work. This means I have to hold it back to see with the brights. Sometimes, however, pushing forward the lever to the brights position the brights will work. Perhaps they are old and need to be repllaced.
Anyone with some help on this I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks

That means your headlight combo switch high beam contacts are dirty. Usually a simple thing to fix:
