Got the toy running but its very ruff, smooths out, stumbles, picks up rpm, stumbles, if I give it gas, it will smooth out, but misses every so often. I made a remark in one of my other posts that when I reached across the motor I contacted the coil wire and it zapped me good, if the wire is leaking juice that could be the cause of the ruff running, maybe ????

 

If the coil wire is breaking down quite possible the other wires are as well .

I always liked looking for sparks off the wires in the dark with the engine running

In all the working something could have easily been knocked loose.

 

New wires due today, we will see if that makes a difference. These are the original wires that came on the toy and with 200,000 on the clock its time for new ones. Things have changed, back in the day, 1950's all wires would knock you if you touched them, today not so much. I can go out and grab one of the wires on my truck no problem, so its time for a change......

 

this Toyota is driving me nuts, replaced the wires and now it will not run at all, double checked the wires and they are right, but now its not getting fuel, it has a new fuel pump from the last go round with not getting fuel. I checked the wires and am getting spark so that isn't it. I pulled the cold weather fuel line and there is no pressure, replaced the fuel filter, still no pressure. The only thing I can figure is this thing doesn't like me, every time I fix one thing something else goes out, so here it is, $3000.00 and you can have it, new motor $3000,00 new tires and rims $2000, + all new components, I am going to stay with my Chevy...........

 

i had a Chevy just like your Toyota from the day I drove it off the lot brand new it made it about 3 miles before it broke the first time .

To bad this was before any Lemon Laws It got to the point none of the Mechanics at the dealer wanted to get stuck with it. In 2 years I was able to put 3000 miles on.

We all get a lemon now and then

Its at a Toyota shop, the mech there is a certified Toyota mech. He says he can get it running, I sure hope so. I am so tired of working on it all the time, and I don't know if its me or the 4 runner. I think it just hates me and I had such great plans for it. Just how much can go wrong.

 

Ok, I have taken it off the market, the mech showed me the wires from the fuel pump, he said that one of the wires has a small spring in it so it will make contact with the incoming hot wire, mine was not there and was not making contact. He put a pressure gage on it and pounded on the top of the fuel tank, the pressure came up but then dropped off again, He pulled the fuel pump and checked the wire, found the problem, rewired it and all is good, Drove it home and it never missed a lick. I knew it was going to be something simple but something I didn't know any thing about. Spring in a wire, whats with that............

Thanks guys, I would have never figured that out. As you all know an intermittent electrical problem is about the hardest thing to fix, or should I say find.

 

I wonder how many of you knew that there was a spring in the center of the fuel pump wire and if was gone the wires would not make contact or an intermittent connection, I sure as heck didn't......

Fired it up again today no problem, runs great, sounds great.

I have had inline fuse holders have a spring fail no stock inline fuses on Toyota`s

I changed maybe 15 fuel pumps on different Toyota vehicles and never came across this issue since 2000

 

The wire he showed me was off the fuel pump lead in wires. They are the ones that make contact with the two prongs on the fuel pump. Those wires were the original wires from Toyota and at sometime the hot lead spring fell out. so they made contact some of the time. He showed me the wire out of mine with out the spring and also a new wire with the contact wire spring in place, I told you they are still mad about the war........
