'90 4-Runner, Where's the Starter?

Okay, I'm trying to do this by myself and I'm very determined but right now I'm really pissed!

I have a '90 4 Runner, V6, 5 speed, I tried starting it and it wont turn over, I just heard a click. Went to the auto parts store and they told me it should be the starter after checking the battery for me and it was fine. Now I've got this new starter but my problem is I can't find the one on my truck! I've looked everywhere - I even have a book! I still can't find it!

Can anyone help me?!?!

Thanks!

a little access hatch (heat shield) should be under the passenger wheel and will help you access it.

Try the starter contact thing first on your old one. You can always take that other one back. Did mine this way some 100k ago and still runs fine.

According to the 4crawler link you can just "slide it forward and drop it" after removing all the nuts and bolts. Theres not much room around it, for those who have done this, will it come out that easy?

with a little coaxing it isnt too bad once you have it all disconnected. Im sure the posted links will yield enough info.
