4Runner eating Redtops?!

last friday i had to goto sears to replace my redtop for the 2nd time in just over a year and a half. the first one made it a year this 2nd on lasted 6 months. the charging system checked out good but has anyone else has issues with red tops? they ended up replacing it with a DieHard Platinum battery (heavy as hell) for a 10 buck difference, AND was able to keep the dead redtop.. costco here i come... also see this thread here https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...php?p=50554509

You got a bad ground some where slowly draining it like from an amplifier or something. I have seen it lots of times.

This is why I have only Yellow Tops as you can drain them dead as a hammer and charge them back up many times.

I had this problem with a regular battery in my Celica. It turned out that when I would close my door, the switch for my interior lights would stick on without me realizing it. After having to recharge my battery 3 or 4 times, I was able to figure it out. Something simple is always a nuisance.

Drain a red top too far and it won't come back. To test your drain, get an amp meter (ammeter) and hook it between the + post and the +/red battery cable, with everything "off". Not the current reading. If more than 20-30 mA (0.020-0.030 amps) start pulling fuses until the current falls. If it does, see what items are on that circuit and try to isolate the item causing the current drain. A drain as small as 50mA can drain a battery in about 2 weeks.
