2nd Gen Gauges.

OKay, so I am back once again. I just cant get enough of you guys! anyways, So I think I have exhausted the search feature on this site, and I cant seem to find anything on 2nd Gen Gauges.

I am in rice mode right now, and I really want some indiglo or reverse glow or some halo glow thingys something! I have led's some cheap-o's from ebay. And They are JUNK! I have horrible spotting, I cant seem gauges sometimes. Just not what I want.

I was in a friends subaru, saw the gauges and my heart is set. Any help finding these things for a second gen?

Oh and also, anyone know anything about installing a keyless entry in my 91 4runner? Just a remote, so I can pop the power locks and all that jazz, dont need the keyless start. Anyways thanks for the help in advance!

Are they indiglo? Or just white face? The TRD ones look sick too!

Ive seen your runner around. Wanna help do a sas? haha

Yeah, but I have searched and searched on Ebay, and havent found anything. That is the problem. I was hoping maybe someone would chime in that has done it.

Well there is a couple problems with doing an SAS I dont have a welder, I dont have a Straight Axle, And have never done one. So what kind of price am I looking at to do one? Also know anyone who needs to get rid of an axel haha.

Depends on what you want to go with.
I think i have a couple buddy's with Dana 44's for pretty cheap.
With that added width you would have to find a similar width rear axle though, unless you narrowed the front.

Search around.. Toy axles can be found around here, seems like everybody and their brothers have them since it seems like everyone is running one tons and 47" tires.

As far as pricing goes, it depends. Could be anywhere from $500 to $3000. Depends what you do and what kind of deals you get. Then you are going to have to lift the rear, where i highly recommend getting some leafs back there and ditching those coils.

If your going to leave the front axle stock and wheel it like that, all you'll need to do is really find and axle, some junkyard springs and buy things like steering, shocks, brake lines, etc..

I wouldn't recommend that option though, because honestly, whats the point? People do that and they have no idea on how to fix them when they break. If you rebuild it in the comfort of your garage, driveway, etc. then you become familiar with how its put together BEFORE its broken on the trail. Id recommend rebuilding the axle first and putting in whatever you want. At least a rebuild with new bearings and seals. Then comes the time for a locker, upgraded axles, etc. Look at my stupid truck, I have a toyota axle, rebuilt it of course, gussets and trusses on the axle, arp studs in the knuckles, high pinion front with an arb air locker, 5.29's, longfields with hub gears. Care to calculate how much that add's up to?

It is expensive to get it where you want it and to do it right, im amazed mine is anywhere built as it is since i am working on a college budget. If you want to do it though id recommend saving, but remember you'll never get your money back out of it completely, so i think its best to buy the best of what there is right off the bat, so you don't have to replace it later, and when the time comes you decide you want to build another truck, you can just swap all those parts over.

Let me know if you need any help, advice, whatever. Im probably only a couple minutes away from where you live in Magalia.

And one last piece of advice, take it or leave it. WHEN you start modifying a vehicle, it WILL start to become a head ache for whatever reason they do. And when that modified vehicle is your daily driver, it sometimes leaves you wondering "am i going to be able to get to work, school, etc...." Sure it doesn't happen to everybody and not right off the bat. But unless you keep with the upkeep, you might regret it. That is why im trying to get rid of mine for something less molested (well one of the reasons)

For example, i have blown up a few diffs, cracked my frame, had electrical problems, let my shackles get loose and get death wobbles, flopped the truck, had the truck not start, etc. BUT I CAN SAY.. MY TRUCK HAS ALWAYS GOTTEN ME HOME... but it possibly couldn't have if i didn't have the mechanical skills to fix it where it had a problem.

I HAVE helped my buddy's fix there trucks quite a few times; broken axles, blown beads, blown hydro assist lines, broken knuckle studs, broken shock mounts, broken etc.. etc.. etc.

But when you start doing like this, things are going to start breaking. (and i just feel like whoring this thread with my own pictures, )

Then things like this start to happen.....

Oh and youll notice your truck starts to slowly (or quickly) getting MOre and MORE beat up. lol
Look how clean it was at first.

Okay, well thats the whole deal. I do want to be bigger, i want the ability to get where i want to go, But i dont want to be morbid. I dont need to be like Tony's Jeep. Thats the one on the skyway, idk he is my cousin or something like that haha. Different story.

I mean I want something, like well what you started off with. I want to run either 33's or 35's. Lock up the rear possibly the front. I want to do a SAS.

I dont need a monster, I dont want to drop in and out of morris with ease, I dont need that, just something to tool around with friends and it is my daily driver.

More than likely I would need more help than not, It is my first rig that I have built to such extremes. I had a ricer before . I have always wheeled with friends and what not but never done the work behind it.
So if you wanted to help me out that would be great!

So then, with your last word of advice. What is the best bet you would say. What is the ideal set up for what i want. Sorry I seem like such a noob. It is kinda early and I am not thinking completely clear. haha But I am trying to make complete sentences.

Anyways thanks for all the help. i really do appreciate it. So then your opinion best setup for me?

Honestly..

UNLESS you have the tools, and skills, and the ability to learn how to build and fix your truck, don't mess with it.

With that being said. I got it bone stock, wheeled it for a little, then put a 4" ifs lift on it and a rear locker, and within half a year a straight axle was under it. I HATED that damn ifs lift, and id recommend not putting on on there, you can get to all the wheeling spots up in the highlakes stock. We did it a bunch, and i just like building my truck, thats why its how it is.

For cheapness, throw a locker in there and a small lift if you want. I sort of rubbed with 33's on my ifs lift.. so its going to depend, the nice thing about the straight axle is being able to move your axle forward, (well along with the added articulation)

this is with that 4" lift and 33x12.50's

Id say with a 1-2" lift and some hammering you could probably get some 33x12.50's fine. or you can search for some 33x10.50's. I like 12.50's though.

Hell i bought mine stock and thought it was big enough for wheeling, now its got a 4" lift and 40's.. for comparasion. next to a stock one on 32"s.

See, I do have some of the tools, and the ability to learn how to build it and work on it, thats not a problem at all. Its just that first time.

Thats my problem I really enjoy workin on my truck, so i want to do more and more and more, and my budget just doesnt wanna work with me.

So then what is the best bet to get a 1 to 2 inch lift and 33's? Ball Joint SPacers and Coil springs or what? I mean I want something that can get where I want it to go, and to be completely honest, I would baby it, I dont have the cash to fix it if i mess it up haha.

just buy mine and you can have two runners..

um you can do ball joint spacers and coils. ( i ran fj 80 coils for a while) AND HATED THEM the rear tires would tuck into the fender around turns on the road, they were way too soft.

id prefer leafs in the back,

Another option would be a small body lift.
OR NO lift and just get the sawzall and hammer out...

How much do you want for it?

I really dont want to do that, idk it feels like a hack way to do what I want.

Well how do I put some leafs in the rear and set up the front right?

I am pretty stuck on a lift i do want that beefier look you know what I mean.
I would love to have a wheeler and a driver but that is not gonna happen.

So should I do a straight axel and get some 5.29s and 35s or what? I dont need them do i? I wont do a body lift, doesnt really do it for me. So keep the ideas rolling, i will figure out what i need today haha
