1994 Tacoma Lighting Questions

Ok so I am the new owner of a "94 Tacoma extended cab (Yea for me) I put the HID headlight conversion in it and it sucked. Any suggestions on a headlight upgrade? I am also looking for LED replacements for everything else. I'm hoping there a new tail lights and corners available.

One question: 1994 Tacoma? Really??? Are your sure it's not a 95 since the Tacoma was not made in 94 model year? What is the manufacture date on the driver door column?
I'm curious.

Funny you ask that..it says 1/95 but it doesn't look like a '95 unless they did a style change. And again I'm a rookie so sorry i'm a dumb ass...

Maybe this should be in the newbie thread, but anyhow.....

The '95 Tacomas (production 10/94 - 9/95) came with the new body style. Old body style in '95 is a pickup.

Look in the Build-Up sections and the Post you Pics thread for pictures of rigs.
Sorry, I'm not much help on the lighting question.

Welcome and welcome aboard! Post up a pic of your rig.

If this is accurate below, see note of 53,488 94 models....however, parts references are for 95 and, even 95.5 as the first model year of the Tacoma.....'tic confusing and I've owned my Tacoma since 8/95.

Interesting info:
Tacoma
1995 Model Year (first year of new model)
Production run: Oct. 1994 through Sept. 1995
Total number produced: NA
Total no. sold in U.S.: 108,742 (includes 53,488 94 models)

The HID kit sucked because you're putting a type of bulb in a housing it was never meant to be in. Glad you got rid of it, because they suck for everyone around you with the glare they produce. If your housings are in good shape, make sure they're getting a good solid voltage (12+) and run some good quality halogen bulbs.

Toyota made 2 trucks that year. They made a 1995 pickup (the last model year of the pickup) and a 1995.5 Tacoma (first model year for the Tacoma).

Check out http://www.theretrofitsource.com/ they make the best projector kits on the market. If you want HID's, projectors are the best way to do it.

As far as your lighting issues, what exactly sucks about the HID upgrade?

For the LEDs everywhere else check out autolumination.com or superbrightleds.com for replacements. Most of your bulbs will probably be the 194 and 74 style bulbs but I can't say for sure and I don't know how many of each you will need. Superbrightleds.com has a feature that lets you put in your year, make and model and then search which bulbs you want to help you find the right style you need. They have LOTS of options for colors and light distribution (spot v. flood).

Mine came from autolumination.com.

Well when the Tacoma housings where designed the reflector was made to work with a set light bulb, the refraction points, for high and low beam. PnP HID's are held to no standard at all, so when you put an HID bulb in it changes where the light hits the housing and where it is aimed. Which leads to light bleeding every where, ei blinding oncoming traffic, which leads to less lumens actually hitting the ground meaning less light output. But people who use PnP HID kits are not concerned with light output, they are looking for color.

Good info. Thanks.

I wonder if anybody makes a replacement housing that works with the HID bulbs.... I admit I don't know much about the HID conversions.

No one makes one for them, but if you are looking to upgrade you lights, a pair of Hella E-code housings and some good halogen bulbs will make a world of difference. Awesome even light output and sharp low beam cut off.
