Zinc Anode

Is this a good idea?:
Anyone using them?

From their website: (These Flex-a-lite zinc anode kits have developed these kits to be installed in the radiator as a replacement for the drain petcocks. They are designed to protect your cooling system from the galvanic action that eats the zinc rather than the components of your cooling system. Most of today's vehicles have many aluminum parts in the cooling system that may disintegrate from electrolysis on the cooling system. Keep your cooling system working at optimum levels with one of these Flex-a-lite zinc anode kits).

Perhaps if you don't ever flush your coolant system. Waste of $$$ imo.

They put a ton of them on submarines, see them swapping them out every time one comes in for refit. Must be something to it if our government spends millions of our tax dollars on them....yeah.

the only time you see electrolysis is from improperly maintained cooling systems. You take care of the service needs of your rig and you wont need things like that.

What about attaching this to the frame to prevent rust from salt corrosion during winter?

I do beleive that is why boats put them on. To stop corrosion of the metal from being in the saltwater. Wouldnt hurt.

Cathodic protection will only works if the zinc (anode) is in the electroyte. That is why it works on boats (salt water is an electrolyte), but won't work on your vehicle frame (air is not).
