I'm not worried about the R&P - I'd be regearing it anyway - unless someone tells me that floating/flying shards from the gear could have damaged other parts. But I am wondering if the rust on the carrier is bad news. Would you use this diff? If so, what would you do to clean it up, if anything?

Clean up gasket surface. Use it.

Get it inside and oil it up. Wrap in plastic bag.

As long as the gears and bearings are good you shouldn`t have any problems.

Well, I bought it. Should be here later this week. Dunno when I'll get around to installing it, though. Lots of more urgent work first.
