well this last weekend was pulling my buddys chevy out that was buried to the axles with my smittybilt xrc8000lb winch. needless to say after getting him out heard winch grinding when free running cable back in and it locked up pulled the motor apart and the magnets are destroyed and the brushes are black. bought it private party so i cant warranty it, 4wheel parts wants 240 for a new motor and the whole winch for 300. So if anybody knows where to get an aftermarket one or a motor thats not as much as the whole winch let me know

 

Sounds like you got shafted. No just kidding. I would take it to a place that does Ac/dc motors, alternators, starters and or anything auto or house electric.

 

Try taking it to an electrical shop (starter/alternator shops usually work too) . They might be able to salvage it for less than the price of a new winch.

You can buy a whole new winch for $300.00 ??

Is that correct?? The same model you have??

sounds like you exceeded the rated capacity of the winch unless it was an S-10...did you use a snatch block? that might have helped...
