windshield repair

found a cracked windshield today when I got in the truck. Dealership wants $802.60+ $200.00 labor (outsourced). My insurance company has their own glass company that will come out to the house. for $312.00 installed.
Has anyone had glass replaced by one of these companies?
I was told that the glass has the same safety rating and whatever as the original Toyota OEM glass. What about leaks? any feedback would be appreciated.

Stop being so picky. Are you driving a Rolls Royce? First off, if they install it and it leaks, they will fix it. Second of all, if it wasn't approved "quality glass", they wouldn't be allowed to use it. Also, it isn't rocket science. It's just a windshield.

my original thought was this;why so much more at the dealership? $700 is a big difference. And no, its not a RR, but it was expensive and I'd like to keep it that way. For as much as I pay for insurance they ought to pop for OEM.

I would actually rather have a glass shop replace my windshield because it's what they do all day long. (Sounds like your dealer sends them out of house anyways.) If your looking for a reputable shop, check to see if there is a Glass Doctor in your area. You can bring your vehicle to there shop or have them come to you. I don't know for a fact but I would bet that the aftermarket glass is no different than OEM and may even come from the same factory. One other cool thing is that there is usually a couple different tint colors to choose from. Good luck with the repair!

I had a windshield installed by Harmon Auto Glass and they actually installed a Toyota OE windshield. I think the bill was $230 installed. The insurance company covered that cost .

Let the insurance company replace it, just be sure it's the same type I.E. tinted vs. not & the same percentage of tint; after all you wouldn't want glass with less tint put in because the more extensive the tint the more expensive the glass! Then after it cures check it for leaks. You'll find federal safety standards ensure all windshields are pretty much the same.
