ok so not until yesterday did i notice my truck 89 pickup) has commercial plates on it....my friend's chevy 2500hd has commercial plates and he said it was because of weight, my truck is no where near as heavy as his, my question is, are laws for tinting windows on comercial vehicles different, another question where could i find this information, i live in rhode island....another question, how many of you guys have commercial plates?

 

in California any pickup has commercial plates. if you have a camper shell, you can get a non commercial plate, but you can never take the camper shell off. (btw, in cali, commercial plates are 1A23456, and non commercial are 1ABC234)

as for window tint, you would have to consult your local laws in rhode island for that.

i was pulled over (wrongly...) for having window tint on the front windows of my 4runner. technically, police in california cannot pull you over for this infraction, but can cite you for it if you were pulled over for something else. i was let off with a verbal warning, and i promised to remove it as soon as possible (read never). he knew he could not give me a ticket for it. all he really wanted to do was hassle me, because im a young guy driving a (at the time) nice and clean vehicle. on top of it all, my mother was in the car.

my guess is that tinting the windows of your truck would follow the same as rules for a car, nothing past the drivers head.
