Mine sounds quite boring compared to most of these.
My 87 xtra cab 4x4 22RE Auto with RADIO DELETE (what was he thinking?) was bought new in 88 as a left over from the previous year by my now deceased Dad in Elmira New York. He drove it back and forth to work at the Chemung County solid waste land fill and plowed snow with it until he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and the truck was diagnosed with frame cancer (thus failing the NYS state inspection) in 2005. He gave it to me before he died in the summer of 2005. My Bother Dan in north PA welded a strap on the bottom of the frame for security, we pulled the plow set up (not needed where I live), made bumper brackets and I headed off to Mississippi with it with 86k on the odometer. I have let a guy who worked for me (MISTAKE) drive it for a while and my youngest son and daughter also did. Mike (the son) put her into a telephone poll going out the driveway once and then overheated the motor/destroyed the motor so now she has a new heart and 165k. Frame rot has been fixed by sectioning the bcak half of the frame, and MANY mods have been done thanks to y'all on this site. Now that I found the cap I wanted the next step will be a paint job with the factory color (black) in Urethane.

No car fax, but I have a pretty reliable oral history on it.
Tag in door jam says made Oct. '80
First 100k was owned by a contractor of some sort in cali somewhere.
The survey company my dad worked for bought it in '85 or there abouts. He would commute in it and the crew would take it out to the job sites to beat the hell outa it.
6/93 bought the truck from the survey company for $1200. 383k mi, a couple primer paint spots on the bed, blown out drivers seat, and caved in front bumper from killing bambi on a forrest service job. Hello my first car! Love at first sight and we've been together ever since.
Took out the original engine at 417k and the original 5sp blew up at 420k.
Just over 525k now and running stronger than ever.

Maybe I should get a carfax on my truck since I've never gotten a clear back story.

Basically it is my first car at 16, bought in 04 from my uncle (retired lieutenant of police) for $2000. Had a some rust on it from where it sat for long periods uncovered but I took care of that. I assume I am the 3rd or 4th owner because I took it to an "auto spa" after I got it to get it lubed up and detailed and found a few pictures of people I've never seen before. However, my uncle owned this truck for a VERY long time. When I was little I remember riding in the back with my cousins going to McDonalds, and couldn't figure out how to open the back door .

When I got it, it had about 185k.

Now, it has close to 280k. I've driven it into the dirt and dusted it back off, and she has never failed to get me home.

Bought for 200 bucks running and driving from original owner that moved from Utah. Rust Free! Since a motor rebuild and a lift kit she stands still rust free and doing great!

Mine was built in Japan in October 1990. I bought it brand new in April 1991 at Kingsway Toyota in Edmonton Alberta. Was wondering if that number (No.275) at the bottom right of the sticker means that this was actually the 275th 4Runner made that year.

According to this VIN decoding chart it was probably the 7961st. I can't say for sure, but I'd think they could make more a few more than 275 buy October. At a rate of 30 a month, or 1 a day, they'd have made more than that by the end of Oct.(300 or so). Which is probably around 30 times less than they actually produced by that time of the year(let's say 9000 give or take). But like I said, I can't say for sure(I'm guessing too). I'll bet I'm a lot closer to right though.

Back on topic...

I don't know much about mine. Other than I'm atleast the 3rd owner. And one of those POs welded their name on the custom built rear bumper at some point.

You can't see it that great in this pic, but it says...

---ARBON'S YOTA---

I still can't figure out if that's his first name or his last though? Who the hell ever heard of a guy named Arbon?

Well I'm a little confused then on the #8, the model line...my VIN says that my truck is a Paseo! Am I reading that right? It should be the letter R!

Wrong chart, try this one.

That's makes the model line part correct. N = Truck, 4Runner

You got that right. But that's kinda what I like about it. It's no messing around neither. The guy can't win any best looking weld awards for it. That don't mean it ain't one of the toughest tube bumpers you've ever seen though. That thing has taken some SERIOUS abuse, and has very little to show for it.

That would bug the hell out of me. First thing I'd have done was grind it off lol.
