I want to make sure my wheels clear my calipers and I had a couple people recommend against shaving down the calipers. Anyone know where to find quality (IE not pepboys) 1/8" spacers?

Also, I have gathered that I will need new wheel studs - I would only be using the spacers on the front, and one thread suggested that tacoma wheel studs are 1/4" longer in the rear...is this true? figure I could add taco rear studs to the front wheels and be good to go - where can I find the longer rear studs, tacoma rear studs or otherwise?

I was hoping to get ones that were a bit higher quality - I think Roger Brown is running Pep boys spacers - and he seems ok with them, but I am pretty sure they say "not for off road use" or something like that - I have heard of cheap wheel spacers breaking and wheels falling off etc

As for the wheel spacers, i have only seem them for 1" for the 3rd gen toyos

Thanks matt -yeah, AOR carries some real nice 1" spacers - there isnt much in terms of quality, thinner spacer - I found some 1/4" ones on ebay - I might end up with those and then pick up the longer studs.

Can anyone confirm that Tacoma studs are 1/4" longer in the rear?? :confused:

 

I am also in need of 1/8" spacers and could not find any so I am having them custom made. As far as the wheel studs go the rear studs are about 2 maybe 3mm longer than the front which is not enough to make the swap worth while. There is a company called ARP that makes longer studs but they are a little expensive. www.arp-bolts.com also check out www.trailslesstraveled.com.

Talking quality on 1/8" rings of steel is a little stretch to me.

 

well, the thing with sandwiched wheel spacers is that if they aren't perfectly flat they shimmy around and eventually come loose, I ran 1/4 inch ones for a few months since wheeling with swaybar disconnected resulted in minor rubbing.. but then it needed a toe-in adjustment, so I just had discount take the wheel spacers off (they can't touch a car with them on, so if you go in for a free rotation, and don't need the spacers all the time, they take off for free, basically ). Anyway, mine were cast aluminum i think, from Murray's Auto Parts, looked like absolute junk, I checked once a day at first then once a week for loosening, never did... also, it is rule of thumb to have at least 7 full turns with the lug I believe, I didn't end up needing longer studs. Also, they can appear longer from front to back due to thickness differences in rotor and drum.

That's funny, cause they add wheel spacers all the time...I have been in Discount Tire a few times when people are getting custom bling wheels that need spacers to clear calipers. I have seen Discount Techs go to a box of misc. spacers and get the ones they need for the application.

 

At the local discount, when I had my 37's in, I had them take a torque wrench to the studs on my rear spacers before the put the wheels on. No worries.

Front wheel spacers are a pain when they are of any size.

 

hmm worried abotu quality find someoen lacally wiht a waterjet or laser and have some cut out of steel plate. Just an idea. I can draw up the .dxf file youll need to take to them on cad if youd like. as for studs im am sure you could either find longer ones or just go to the local parts store and ask for longer ones.

 

go 1/4" and get the lug nuts that have a 1/4" sleeve that extends into the spacer, you dont loose any thread purchase...

 

Dude, if Roger frickin' Brown runs them on his own rig and says they are OK, trust me, they are OK!


I ran them on my 96 4Runner back in 2002, and they are still on there to this day. Thats 5 years.

as far as i know, the ones with sleeves are for lug-centric rims, no? and the way my spacers fit on, there was no slop in the holes for longer-sleeved lugs, seems you may have problems centering the spacer. then again I guess if all the sleeved lugs were there, it would be tight and centered again, but not everyone would use them, causing problems once again.

and yeah, two discounts were adamantly against spacers, thats funny

 

are you trying to use them with OEM or aftermarket wheels? If OEM then no it wont work.

I have used the spacers with and without the extended lug nuts, no issues on centering or vibrations..

I typically have a set on the front and a set on the rear. Seem to be holding up fine. I have an extra set or two (new) if you can't find any locally.
