What do you do before you start a critical change?

Figuring this out.. he started on this at what... 4:30? It is now... 9:30 and he just got it out. NOW it should take what, 30 minutes to install the rest?

WHat I think is funny is that he completely thinks I should just bypass the hospital and birth at home (which I like the idea of) but knowing him now, if the baby's head gets stuck he's going to come back in with a drill....

Sorry, meant to say only drill that I own that needs a chuck is my drill press...and the HD Milwaukee hammer drill...but that thing will kill you.

wab i know the hd hammer drill all to well.
to answer the op original question - the 6p's (proper planning prevents piss poor performance) are a great rule of thumb but even then stuff can happen that makes ya say bad words like &^%$@!!! duct tape and bailing wire along with a bfh and bfw can fix almost anything. for a while.....
oh yeah and a hammer and nail/screw driver work great in place of a chuck key.

x2 - at least on the "mini truck" rigs, the one puller fits all. Soak the joint with a good penetrating oil (like PB Blaster) and then yam on it with that. I have yet to see one it couldn't pop loose... although when it does, it sounds like you broke something!
A couple other comments:
- you can drive the truck without a steering stabilizer, so if he couldn't get it back on you wouldn't be "stranded" ... well, until he started drilling stuff ...
- a steering stabilizer is a band-aid on your real problem. After you did the lift, did you get an alignment? What was the caster angle? (99.999% of shops won't even attempt to adjust the caster). This is a VERY common problem on lifted 80 series LCs. Slee Offroad has arms to fix it.
- MANY times, I THINK I have the right stuff and don't. It's why I don't work on my rig at other people's house... and why I have another car!

2) a BFH / duct tape (in cases of no 2nd car)
3) stocked fridge (for the 'helpers'
)
4) be sure the 'sig other' has a task that doesnt require them to be able to interupt my concentration, ask stupid questions, such as: "when are you gonna be done?"
BTW, i found the chuck key...

I never have fewer than 3 vehicles on the road .
If one breaks or is in need of any major work . I can take my time . I always plan on the worst things to happen and sometimes they do.
There is only me to have to deal with.
