what is the best brand of service/repair manuals?
Hey all, I need to get a service/repair manual for a recently bought 94 4runner. What brand of manual would you guys recommend? If you could also include a link or something of the sort, that would be awesome.
thanks

Try to find a Factory Service Manual, look on Ebay, Craigslist, also there are some downloadable PDFs out there as well. You can get a FSM from the dealer too, but it will be more expensive.

Even if you have to resort to buying it at the dealership, the Toyota manuals are the best that I have ever seen, and worth the $, in my opinion. They are far superior to any Haynes or Chilton book that I've seen.
If you plan to keep your truck for a while, you'll find the FSM to be an invaluable resource.

The FSM is definetly the best manual. I have used the cheap ones from the auto parts stores and they leave out lots of things. The FSM is about 3 times as thick as a Chilton manual and it is only for your specific year. The Chilton and Haynes manuals cover about 20 to 30 years of various models, not just pickups and 4runners.

If it comes down to Haynes and Chiltons, go with Haynes. Chiltons covers a much broader spectrum of motors and vehicles (like the T-100 and LC). Haynes only covers the Pickups and 4Runners.

Factory service manuals are far ahead of Hayne's or Chilton.
I got lucky and found a set on e-bay for $60.00 sure beats the $300.00 the dealer wanted for new ones.

yup defiantly the toyota manual is the best! we have access to alldata and shopkey 5 at work and school, and even they lack all info on our trucks, i picked up a 91 manual for my 90, it full of so much very very good info! and it was very inexpensive.

FSM for a '93 truck:

For a '95 4Runner:
http://www.the-roo.com/4runner/
The truck one is much easier to navigate - I would only use the 4Runner one for SUV specific stuff.
