want firetruck horn

ok i have tried about 8-10 aftermarket horns and nothing sounds any better then my stock horn....i have had enough...i want to get the firetruck horn NOT a train horn, i really don't like those and i am not looking for a siren because i will get into trouble if i get those, just a deep fireengine horn, kinda like an 18wheeler's horn just a little more high pitched.....like when i here a firetruck or ambulance coming behind me and they are using that horn the one thing i think of is....OK....ENOUGH.....i have searched just can't find what i am looking for....any help

try a junk yard. and you will need a tank and compressor. in highschool i bought one of these and brought it to football games...cost about $80 and was a ton of fun until the refs decided it was affecting play and took it

I am searching my local junkyards on Big Rigs to see if I can pull the complete system off of that.

Compressor and tank will be mounted somewhere underneath and out of the way on the frame and the horns them selves i am debating the roof, or somewhere on the outside of the frame under the Runner...

I run a pair of air horns, 18" and 16". Like other folks have said, you'll need an air compressor and a tank, then a solenoid that will trigger off of the stock horn circuit to dump the air from the tank on demand. The CFM required to get a blast won't happen with just a compressor. I run 150psi in a 2 liter tank and get a 30 second blast before the pressure drops off.

One thing though... Check your local laws, it's QUITE possible that it's illegal to use "emergency vehicle accessories" on a non-emergency vehicle. That kindofa law is usually reserved for lights and sirens, but could include those blast horns.

btw...

I bet it's quite a bit heavier than a stock one.

I bought from Grover. But it did go onto a fire truck. The old ones were corroded inside and had quit working.

Fire air horns are about 30" long and need a LOT of air. We had a rig lock up the brakes because they pulled the horn too much (air pressure pulls the park brakes off on a big rig)

I got an actual horn from a police car/ambulance it runs on 12v (no air). This is the horn that cops and ambulances sound off when they cross an intersection or some retard does not get out of the way. I got it at Galls.com. about 220$ USD. Worth every penny.

I would however recommend that you not connect the sirens to stay somewhat legal!!

The models I purchased were: SK092 and SK123 they were 109$ each.

Have fun

Big rigs use an engine driven air compressor

I bought an air horn off ebay for like $10, they said it came off an ambulance. Its about 24" long. I hooked it to my MV-450 air compressor, turned it on, and it blasted loud as heck! Which leads me to beleive you dont actually need a big air tank, it could run directly off the compressor. But I'm going to mount a tank so I can air up tires faster. Actually going with 2 MV-450's.
