So, my mom was telling me that last night a guy at the bar was telling her that if Toyotas had JT in the vin that meant it was a Japan model? Does anyone know if this is true?

If the vin starts with a J it was made in Japan. If it is here in America, it is a north American model imported from Japan.

4Runners are still made in Japan.
Off the top of my head I know Tacoma's and Corolla's are made here in North America. Many of the other models are made here.
Back in the 80's and 90's before NUMI all Toyota's were built in Japan and imported. That's why they call them an import
