Some of that information is wrong. It says that there will be no more Solara's after 2007, but we've got a few '08s at work. Also, the '08 Matrix is almost identical to the '07.

Some of those things, I don't see why they are redesigning. Like the Highlander. Does Toyota really need like 6 SUV's? They have the Rav4, the highlander, landcruiser, FJ cruiser, 4Runner, sequoia, Am I forgetting any?...Who want's an SUV that isn't that big, doesn't look that great, you can't take off road, doesn't seat that many people, and doesn't get real good MPG?

Toyota is investing heavily into hybrids and within 5 ~ 7 years or so will lead all the automakers, with their stated goal of 80% of their lineup as hybrids.

And why not ??

My guess is that it's probably because you don't know what it's potential is.

Honda is dropping all of its hybrids for diesels in 2009, with the last hybrid models will be 2008. Hybrids are just too expensive and over complicated. There is really no savings when you have to spend thousands to replace batteries every 5-7 years. Hondas new diesels will achieve 92 MPG in a 4 door sedan; something a compact hybrid hasn?t even come close to achieving yet.

Yup, diesels are the way to go. The hybrid stuff just doesn't cut it. It is interesting, but the cars are TOO SLOW, and cost too much, and diesel can offer better economy, and lower cost, and prolonged reliability. We need to focus on diesel, hybrids, IMO came out about 15 years too early. We still need to research those a little more, and make them look like cars that people would actually want to drive.

I think they just morphed the Prius into something even uglier, and stuffed a V6 in it, and called it a supra. That's pretty much what Dodge did with the new Charger.

Yeah potential, a giant battery and added electronics. We can get all the Fuel economy and power out of Diesels and not have to put up with computer controled cars... They're more expensive to build, maintain and buy, where as Diesel's have been around for a hundred years and still make the most power with the simplest powerplant. Since when has adding weight and complexity led to potential... No to mention it takes more energy and bad chemicals to make the batterys than it does to make Bio fuels. Bio fuels will be the savior of our energy crisis. Bio-haul has potential. and bio-haul plus hybrid tech... maybe I'll take a look.

Geezzz people, come up for air and look around before the world passes you by.
You don't think diesels have computers and advance electronics......

You want to talk about power.
Ok, what's used to haul the heaviest loads on land and what engine do they use for them (the vast majority of 'em).

The publics lack of knowledge and overall poor attitude is what killed the electric car in the first place. See: Who killed the electric car Link to Trailer: http://www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/

The problem is again rearing its ugly head, but instead of Electrics, we have hybrids. And the publics ignorance and general poor attitude to hybrids is again killing them off.

Diesel Freak and Stormin94: I want to know where you get your "information"

Diesel has its place, just like hybrids and electric cars even. However, in this time of "high horsepower faster is better" no one is willing to sacrifice power for effeciency. A Prius will get you there the same rate of speed your gas-sucker 4Runner will, and for 3 times the efficiency. Am I saying drive a prius instead of a 4Runner? No. I own 3 4runners, i am no hypocrite. But saying Hybrids are bad technology is about the silliest thing I have ever heard.

Ok, let's make this simpler, since some people are having a bit of a time understanding

What TURNS the wheels ?

Not sure. The diesel turns the electric generator which sends that electric power through the cars. They have motors that are driven off the electricity on the axles. Not really a hybrid as the diesel can't turn off as all power to the axles would be lost but it does show that diesel is a better powerplant for some applications. I've been hoping someone would look at a diesel hybrid motor so that there could be awesome pulling power from a stop and then improved economy during normal use. I think the initial expense of diesel engines has kept auto manufacturers from looking at diesel since hybrids already tack on $$$ to the bottom line of a vehicle.
