Well seeing as how secretive Toyota is, and the fact he said "in the near future" or something like that, my guess is 2009 or 2010.

Finally. A tundra Diesel.

Too bad they will be putting in the new plastic tundras.

I'll stick to my Cummins for now.

I still think that the dodge 5.9 cummins is the greatest diesel motor that has ever been built and the new "low emissions" motors will never be as good as the old ones

An engine, especially a diesel engine, is basically a giant air pump. The more crap you bolt on to restrict air flow, the worse it is.

I love my 24 valve cummins.

What do you mean by that? From what I was taught by Perkins (they make industrial diesel engines) that the new "low emissions" diesels have very high pressure fuel pumps and very strict timing, along with special domed pistons. They don't bolt on any "more crap". Its all in the timing of the fuel being sprayed, and the burn of the fuel inside the domed pistons.

Ha, ya good luck, don't hold your breath. Toyota is said to release the Hybrid version LONG before diesel makes a come-back. people have alreay put the new 4.5L twin turbo in their new tundra's down here(well Belize City not Corozal) nice find mind you, i think i saw that like a year or two ago. it's been "planned" for the last few years.

you know seeing this made me think of somethin. friday when i was getting off work someone came in with plates from a diff country, in a taco that sounded like it had a cummins in it. im not sure if the yota diesels sound like that, but it sounded sick. but for the record, ill put more faith in the cummins than the yota one. (sorry toyota). anyone got ne experience with the power stroke diesels? they any good?

I guess if you needed a deisel in a huge truck this would be big news but with gas prices on the rise and people getting smarter about the size of the vehicles they will drive this will only benefit a small percentage of truck buyers. I know a Tundra or any big truck isn't a part of my future so it doesn't matter to me at all.

Gas prices haven't hit $4-5 a gallon yet either. Price shock seems to get to americans the more over $3 we go.

This is not a confirmation, it's more of a let down.
I'm not going to drive a big tundra diesel.
More people want a tacoma or fj cruiser diesel.

My understanding from the dealer is that the diesel will be in the 09 models and that a diesel will be going in the FJs as well...

Boo!

Bring over the Hilux, Im not saying I dont like the Tundra but like alot of people on here, I will never own one or ever need to own one, or anything that big. Thing is though they arent marketing them to any of us Toyota owners anyway, I wish they would offer a nice small truck again.

I also own a 2000 ford f250 with a 7.3 diesel, also it has 247,000 miles on it. Thats the one thing ford can do right is build a diesel. I plow with it and it yanks my 15 foot yard trailer around like nothing. I used my little 88 22RE 4x4 pickup for almost a year and couldnt take it anymore. I still love my toyota's thoe, Thats why I own two of them.
