I don't use Pennzoil, but there has been some bashing of Pennzoil products on this forum. Well, today I picked up a part at the local Toyota dealer and noticed they used Pennzoil filters. I asked and they also used Pennzoil oil. They had a few Toyota filters (who someone else probably makes anyway), but most of the filters were Pennzoil. I was wondering has anyone seen any problems with Pennzoil?

I know from rebuilding automotive engines that with the use of some oils engines are dirtier than others. I know its probably like comparing apples to oranges, but I rebuilt a Briggs that was running Pennzoil that engine seemed fine.

I really don't plan on switching to Pennzoil but was just curious what everyone else thought on the subject.

 

i've used pennzoil for years with no problems.i wouldn't use anuthing but an oem filter on anything i've owned though.impo the doesn't matter as much as keeping changed on a regular basis 3000-5000 miles

 

I've heard from several knowledgeable people that in the early to mid 90's Pennzoil sucked. But begginning in the late 90's I've had nearly as many mechanics say "I know what you're thinking about Pennzoil, but they're improved, they're as good as anything now".

I'd use OE oil filters, or ones made by the OE manufacturer. Sometimes it's a crapshoot on whether the aftermarket guys got it "right" or not.

 

i got my oil changed today and they used penzoil oil and OEM filters

yea, im a lazy ass and didnt want to make a mess!

 

Pennzoil, Look at the miles and there all put on hard, Its changed every 2k dirty or not and I use most filters except fram.

 

I've read several places on the net saying that Fram makes Pennzoil filters. They are just painted different colors.

 

Fram and penzoil are one in the same, I wont use them b/c they have known issues with being durable and leaking.

In all my cars I have used purolator or napa gold filters (wix) and either castrol or quaker state and have always been fine. It isnt so much using cheap oil (those are made by the same companies and its usually just a lesser grade of oil) or filters (besides fram) as chaning it often, every 3-4k never anymore.

I also stress that using dino oil for over 100k means you cant do synthetic-you will get leaks more often than not.

 

I heard from very reliable sources that all motor oils suck. I am switching to bacon grease.
