Tire Fixing Help

Hey Everyone

I have 32x1150" MT/R's. I have 4 good ones on the truck and one not so good spare. The not so good spare is not on a rim yet because I need to figure out a way to seal the inside of the tire.

Not too recently I was on a dirt road and ran over a meat hook. The hook punctured the tire which is not a big problem (i can plug it) but being that it is a hook shape, it braised the inside of the tire to the steel lacing. So next to the puncture, there is an abraision on the inside of the tire. This part does not leak air, only the puncture... The abraision is to big for a patch, unless anyone knows where to get an oversized patch. But I am really asking if anyone knows of some sort of liquid I could seal the abraision over with just for safety?
Thanks, i will try and get some pics...
-Mike

I thought of tar too but... I'm afraid it would harden in an if the tire flexes it might chip/peel off...

thats a possibility i guess.
i work construction, and these tile guys on the job site had this stuff for sealing things, like bathrubs and sinks and stuff. it was like the rhino liner stuff, but it was more rubbery, and dried to a rubber-like consistancy. dont know the name of the stuff or where to get it. so i am no help as usual !

Why have a questionable spare? So you can be stranded twice in an hour? Have a tire shop look at it and repair if readily repairable. Otherwise trash it and find a spare that will actually get you home.

I hope to heck you guys arent serious about the duct tape and tar. :pat:

Wabbit... Your right, I'm gonna go get a cheap spare somewhere. I just have trouble trashing a $200 tire that is semi-fixable.

Rob... You have been help, i know the rubber stuff your talking about, i'll look into it, but the wabbit steered me in another direction.
Thanks guys

he does have a very good point, and tossing a $200 tire away sucks. i would take it to a shop and ask their opinion on it. if it doesnt leak air like you say... maybe throw something on the abrasion like you wanted to, throw it on your truck and drive on it and let it sit overnight, see if you loose any air. at the very least, get another spare, but keep this one as a spare to the spare!
