So, this antenna writeup list the following parts:
Antenna Assembly: 86300-35090 (list price $36.94)
Tacoma Whip antenna: 86309-AA040 ($27.38 at my dealership)
It also says: "Please note that the Tacoma Whip Antenna is not picture above. If you want the Tacoma black whip antenna, buy part no. 86309-AA0400 and NOT 86309-35100 or 86309-32011. "
I'm not sure I understand if I need both to replace my broken motorized unit on my 3rd gen ('97) with the black Tacoma whip.
The writeup doesn't seen to address which part does what.
Can anybody hit me with a cluestick on this?
Thanks
-Steve

And in that thread yo ulinked to, there is some question as to if the antenna, and the antenna assembly is needed.
Also, I have a 3rd gen, and from the writeup posted in this thread, it's not clear if the part numbers are applicable.
Hence my questions.
Thanks.

I did, but if you look, the link in the thread you referred to is dead, but it appears that the link at the beginning of THIS thread IS Bob's writeup. That's the article I referring to where the issues are not clear (at least to me).

Yes, it looks pretty similar.
He cleaned it up and put some new graphics in it but other than that they look the same.
I can't compare part numbers though, my memory isn't that good.
I did this mod on my '99 4Runner and it was very easy, I do remember that.

I'm ready to do mine-I am glad for the link up.
I am glad to eliminate the drama associated with electric antenna. One of man's most useless inventions if you ask me.
Collapsible is fine-power collapsible is so unnecessary. That would be a cool design on a truck. The designers can make it happen for a sleek coupe into the A pillar....
always glad to stumble across the 2 year old threads and you guys supervising- this is so helpful to me-
really mean it- thanks for the guys like Bob98SR5 and 4x4Fink we don't go trashing our vehicles....

Well then I'll take your word for it. But the $209.40 list price seemed kind of high for what you get.

Well, as it says, that would be for the entire assembly. Which looks to be 4 parts in total. PNC 86300.

PNC 86309B would be just the antenna mast/pole sub-assembly. That part # is 86309-32011.
You're lucky I happened to be here today to figure that one out for you. Odds are I'm THE ONLY member on this site who could have. Yes, I'm that badass at this.
As in...
No, IT'S NOT the correct part for a 3rd gen. 4Runner or Tacoma. Yes, IT IS the correct part for a 2nd gen. 4Runner.
