t case pops out of 4hi
I replaced the rear cover on my tcase. 87 pu 22r 5 spd. Since I put it back together it pops out of 4 hi when I let off the throttle or push in the clutch. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

yes I have a body lift, no the shifter is not hitting the body. I'm guessing it is in wrong. I cut it to weld in a 3" extension, it worked fine for a while until it broke. It has only started doing this since I welded it back together. So I am thinking I am going to need a new shifter? Does anyone make longer ones for bodylifts?

Here is an option for a body lift:

Ok I replaced the shifter, it still will not stay in 4 hi, I even put it in 4 hi pulled the shifter out and it still jumps out of 4 hi. I am guessing it is something internal, it will stay in 4 lo. Also when jumps out of 4 hi I have to pull the shifter to get it back into 4 hi or 2hi. Does anyone have any ideas? Shifter bushing?

Might try a heavy duty shift spring from Marlin Crawler:

I had heard they where next to impossible to replace with the transfer case still in the vehicle. I got lucky and managed to swap them, transfer still in place.
If I was going to do all the work to swap one, I'd probably just swap both if I had access. Couldn't hurt.

My buddy had the same experience on his '94 pickup. 1" body lift helped a little. The springs are behind allen screw caps on the top edge of the t-case (in line with the internal shift rails), so pretty tight quarters to work in w/ t-case installed. Might help to un-bolt the crossmember from the frame and lower the back of the drivetrain a few inches for more working room.

Is there supposed to be a spring on each side of the t case? I only found a screw on the pass side. If there is supposed to be one on the drivers side it is missing, there is a threaded hole on the drivers side but no screw, so therefore no spring and no ball bearing ?

okay, I'm an idiot. Both screws and springs are there. There is a hole forward of the rear spring screw on the drivers side, which I thought was for the spring ball assembly. Looks like I will be ordering the heavy duty springs. Thanks for all your input.
