Stolen Pickup

Well, she's gone. I got up Saturday morning to go fishing, walked outside about 6:30 to get the boat ready, and there was a big empty spot in my driveway. No broken glass, nothing. Just gone. According to my brother who is a cop, it's pretty easy to file down a key from early 90's toyotas and it will work for most or all toyotas from that era. So, keep your ˟˟˟˟˟ locked up, guys. Get an alarm, or a club, or park in your garage. It's been five days and I still haven't heard anything. I'm sure the stereo, amp, speakers, sub, rear axle, new BFG tires and everything else is all stripped & on ebay or something. What a bitch. I don't know if I'll get another one or what. Might be saying goodbye to YT. Thanks for ALL the help getting her to run great, guys (and it was a LOT of help). Cheers

Sorry to hear of your loss. Don't give up on YT yet, get yourself another one. Post a picture and others could keep an eye out for it.

Man, sorry to hear about another victim. I'm going to definitely get creative in figuring out how to secure my truck.

I hope you get it back with limited damage . . . . or get a new truck! Either way don't leave the YT community!

Best way to prevent your Toyota getting jacked...move out of California.

Seriously, almost EVERY Toyota that I see that has been stolen on a forum has been stolen in California.

Yeah, no kidding. The lady I deal with at my bank says there has been a theft ring going on in my area where they steal cars to get personal information for identity theft... Of course there was my contractor's license application in there with my driver's license number and my social security number on it. What kind of idiot leaves that kind of crap in his truck?
I'll probably end up getting another Toyota, but not for a few months. Probably get a bike for work commute. (have to get that one past the wife. Wish me luck! )

I'm sorry to hear your truck was stolen. I had my truck stolen last year by your typical crystal meth/crack addict looking to fuel his needs by using my truck as a theft vehicle.

The cops nailed him about 5 hours away in the interior of BC. He was using my truck to tow various items and got caught when some neighbours called him in acting suspiciously in a neighbourhood. He fled on foot but the cops chased him down and he got 12 monthes in jail. My truck didn't have any real damage, it was mostly just missing accessories and the stereo. For instance the mudflaps, trim, spare tire, canopy, roof racks on the canopy, bug deflector, amp, subs, & deck were gone. He also painted my wheels black. The power steering pump, and new idler arm, were toast, probably from him doing sharp turns while towing, but those were replaced with new OEM parts al paid for. In the long run I think I actually came out better than I did going in - insurance handled things well and I had good paper work, etc. I've put about 20,000 plus miles on since the theft and the truck runs as good as I remember it since I've had it.

Am I condoning having your vehilce stolen? hell no. It was the worst expierience in the world, I love this truck. It's an awesome truck. All the repairs, the rental car, everything, was a royal PITA and there were still things I had to pay for (IE missing sunglasses) that you just can't claim with insurance and in the end run it costs you money. Since then I've gotten a top notch immobilizer and I'm thankful everytime I come to my truck and it's still there.

Having your vehicle stolen is the ultimate in having your toes stepped on, and considering the personal nature with which we all hold our vehicles, it is borderline violation.

Nope. I talked to my brother yesterday (he's a Sherriff Deputy) and he said there were no updates. He's thinking the reason they haven't found it yet is because it's not on the abandoned on the side of a road stripped, but the person who stole it is either driving it or sold it to someone else, and they probably swapped the plates. Who knows. I'm sure it's gone. Going to go looking for a new car next weekend if it's not found. What year did pickups & 4runners switch from the 3.0 to the 3.4? (I don't want that gutless POC motor anymore)

3.Slow to 3.4 conversion

1996 was the first year for the 3.4L in 4Runners.

1995 was the first year for the 3.4L in Tacomas.

While the 3.Slow was terrible, the 3.4 is not without its own flaws. I think the people that get rid of the cross over pipe, add headers, then use an oil catch can in their PVC system are the happiest with their 3.4's engines.

If someone has taken the trouble to do the above, and nothing has happened to the truck then it should be a great ride.

LAWLESS ILLEGAL ALIENS and STOLEN PROPERTY
Many vehicles are now stolen by illegal immigrants working for sleezebag construction companies. Companies hire cheap illegal labor to cost shift the low wages, they steal trucks to work job sites. Cities now give sanctuary to the lawless lawbreakers so the illegals and their lawless corporations are never prosecuted for even stolen vehicles.

I speak from experience. My 4runner was stolen last March 2006, but fortunately recovered. Inside the recovered vehicle was construction equipment like construction belt, tools, nails, hammers etc. Also the cab contained a file cabinet's worth of paperwork identifying the crook; paycheck stubs, home address, employer, even illegal alien ID numbers. The police do nothing because it's a 'sanctuary city' like many. The city workers gave out a bogus registration for the stolen auto. Illegal aliens and their crooked employers can freely steal property. A legal resident would be in jail because of the 'shopping bags full of paperwork' identifying the thief.

LAWLESS CONSTRUCTION JOB SITES
You want to make a news story. Take a handheld camera to construction job sites and wave it over the lower left of the windshield. Secretly record VIN numbers of employee's vehicles. Match those VINs to a VIN website (search Google). My guess is you will find many of your stolen vehicles at housing construction job sites.

Accountants call it 'cost shifting'. lol

Police do NOTHNG. The illegals probably are off stealing another vehicle now cuz they and their corporations know they won't be prosecuted. Could be your truck, lol. The positive side is there is a 50 to 75% chance of recovery.

That is my personal experience. Just saying that is what you are up against. So security alarm that vehicle because we're back to the old west days. You've heard of the WWII generation and gen x, this is currently the 'Lawless Generation' through sanctuary.

Lovely Liberals. Making this country safer and safer for criminals. Thanks for the input. Considering I work for a construction company, that doesn't surprise me at all. The company I work for (I'm related to the owner (insert joke here)), however, does not employ illegals.

Nothing pisses me off more than driving by a Home Depot or Lowe's around the construction sites & seeing those pricks waiting for someone to give them work. The police usually sit nearby to make sure nothing happens (fights, shootings, etc. Yes, most of these A-holes are strapped), but they are prohibited (THE POLICE ARE PROHIBITED...I wanted to make sure that sinks in) from asking these ILLEGAL ALIENS if they have ID or papers. Now tell me where this makes sense to anyone.

Yeah, nice how they can question us, but not illegals, huh? And yes, they know these guys are illegals. I'm sure there are loopholes, but they can get in big trouble. My brother is a cop and few things burn him more than not being able to question these illegals unless he witnesses or responds to an incident involving them.

what the?...

Ok guys-
This is a place to talk about Toyota trucks, not to badmouth other cross sections of society (legal or not). If you guys have such a problem with immigrants in your area, write your congressperson, join an appropriate forum and leave your views OUT of Yotatech. Please! This is supposed to be a comfortable place for people with all sorts of views who share a love for the Toyota trucks they drive. Thank you all...
-Marty
PS- I am sorry to hear about your truck, Bassin', I hope it all works out for you.

-If I have the wrong idea about this forum, I would love to PM with a founding member. thanks again.

Marty...it would seem you can't make up your mind dude.

I think there is room for all of our views, whether you or I agree or share the same ones.
