Since you live in the desert, I would stick with the color you already have. Black absorbes a LOT of heat, white the least. Trust me. My Chevy was black and it was hot inside in the winter as long as the sun was out and down right UNBEARABLE in the summer, especially when the AC compressor seazed 4 hours from home on a 98 degree humid day. Uhgg. It must have been 140 inside the cab without exaggeration.
My Yota is white and even though it doesn't look as nice, it's a hell of a lot more comfortable temperature-wise.

If you got a compressor...just buy ya a cheap HVLP paint gun and a quart of primer, a qt of semi gloss black, some thinner, and it will come out alot smoother looking. I've painted cars before and got my certification in it when I was in high school so I know alot about it. Dry sand everything first with 320 grit sandpaper, then follow with a wet sand of 320....or even a scuff pad and it will look nice. If you really get picky....wet sand with 1000 grit to remove any dirt and buff with a compound. That will get you perfection...but for a trail rig I doubt you would want to go that far.

there is good advice in this thread :p
i might go the hlvp paint gun /compressor route though, and maybe do some cheap jobs for friends as well.
