spark plug question

ok, been searching for the last half hour with no luck.

I was thinking earlier, does the actual postion of the spark plug once installed make a difference of anykind? I am not sure how to really put this, but would it matter where the tip of the side electrode is pointed inside the cylinder head?

It only goes in one way. You dont have a choice. If its in a different position, you've stripped your spark plug hole.

not true...that could change depending on the brand of the plug, or the thickness of the crush washer.

changing the orientation of electrode is called indexing the plug. it's popular on small high performance engine(go karts, boat motors, dirt bikes etc) to help squeeze every little bit of power out of them.

so do i not have to worry about the position of the electrode then? it should already be set in the best possible direction??

you shouldn't have to worry much, indexing the electrodes on this engine will most likely gain no noticeable performance.

i need anything and everything that will help out my poor underpowered 22r-e !
if i get bored one of these next few days, i think i am going to take my plugs out, mark the insulator where the electode is pointing, and re-install them. just to see if they truly do line up where they should. and if they dont then maybe i can find some crush washers with different thicknesses so i can line the electrodes up properly!!
