Recomend me a POR-15 type paint avalible at retail stores ASAP!
So I am in the process or removing ALL the paint and powdercoating from my TJM bumper and repainting the same way I did my sliders.
-I used chemical stripper and wire wheels to remove all the paint and powdercoating (I hate powdercoating)
-I used POR-15 metal ready on the rust
-I used 5 cans or Duplicolor self etching primer
Here is the roadblock, the next step is a brushed on coat of POR-15.
Even though I orderd the paint last week as far as I know it has not even shipped yet. I will call them tomorow and unless it is going to be here by Friday I will just cancel the order. I need a backup paint though.
What product (avalible at retail stores as I have never seen POR-15 in a shop) is of like composition, application, use and quality?
I cannot wait forever for the POR-15 to arrive so I can finish and have my 4Runner on the road again so I just need recomendations on the best alternitive that I can get my hands on fast.
A product and store suggestion from you would be great, the more detail the better.
Thanks so much!

I have a sixpack of smalll cans I can send you if you replace mine - just pay my shipping to you and replace them when yours come in. If I send tomorrow you should have them Friday or Sat at the latest.

Cebby, thanks so much. Before you go to work tomorow check your PM. If nobody comes up with a better solution I will have you do that and I will refund you for the cost of the overnight shipping (at this point money is no object) and order a new 6 pack and just have it shipped to your place.
Thanks again!

But it has rusted in spots.
I like the POR-15 because it forms a single, tough, flexable layer of protection that does not let water in between it and the metal when it gets scratched (like powdercoating).

I am resaerching a product called Valspor right now, it is avalible at TSC.
I will be undercoating most of the inside of the bumper (100000000 times better than POR-15) and the outside can be touched up untill I have time to do it all again if necessary I suppose, uhhhhh.
As gracious as Cebby is I would like to stay on schedula and not have to call of work on Sat. Who knows, it may be the only option.

If you use this let me know how it works. I have not had the time to try it out.

IIRC doesn't the POR-15 need to be in direct contact with the metal? By priming with the Duplicolor and topcoating with POR-15 don't you insulate the metal from the protective effect of the POR-15? I think the POR people recommend priming and topcoating over POR-15 if you want a particular finish.
I checked the online directions . . . (http://www.por15.com/Portals/0/uploa...directions.pdf), which say that POR-15 should not be applied over other paints.
I don't want you to waste any of that very expensive paint!!!
Look at this too, http://www.por15.com/Portals/0/uploa...cationInfo.pdf. Note the section on "What is "Proper Preparation?"" that says that if POR-15 is applied over another coating it will not provide long term rust protection.
I used the "Marine Clean" and "Metal Ready" under my battery before applying POR-15. The only other thing I learned in the process is to make sure that there's no moisture remaining on the surface you are painting. There are some joints where the stock battery mount is spot welded to the inner fender that held moisture and required some touch up work because the POR-15 bubbled.

I just ordered some POR-15 late yesterday and received a shipping notification e-mail today, so they normally ship ASAP.
Yes, best to apply over bare (or rusted) steel, but over other paint, I usually find that it ends up making an excellent "paint stripper" As the underlying paint fails, the tougher POR-15 will lift the old paint off the steel if it gets scraped, leaving bare metal underneath. If you can at least deeply scratch the old paint through to steel, it may work OK. Probably skip the primer coat and just use a top coat in that case. And I like to get the bare steel rusty before painting, thin surface rust helps to roughen up the steel for the paint to stick better. Either use some sort of acid (phosphoric acic, CLS, Lime-Away) or even a spray of salt water to flash the surface w/ rust, or leave the steel exposed to air for a month or so.

I know what the POR-15 website says, I also know what I have done in the past on many metal things works just how I want it to.

Just making sure.

Yeah, I don't really use it for the metal to paint adhesion, just as a strong, chip resistant coat between the primer and paint.
