2nd gen Tacomas ('05-current) can be had in 4cyl, 4x4, single cab, 5/6spd manual configuration...
...so basically they havent stopped producing them...

they've always made them.

you can buy a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 single cab with 2.7 inline 4 cyl. with 5-speed right now, for about $21k

what color would you like?

in fact, if you go to http://www.toyota.com and click the "build your own" link, you can put in your zip code, build the truck exactly how you want, and it will tell you where the toyota dealers are that have one just like it.

I could be wrong, but I think the standard cab, 4x4, 4 banger will not be available in 2011. I tried building one on Toyota.com the other day and it wouldn't let me choose those options.

Having a front diff and a t-case determines if it's 4x4, not a solid axle.

It's cause your zip code. Try putting in a zip from back east and it'll let you build a 4x4 single cab 5 speed 4cylinder Tacoma.

So like said, since 1979 Toyota has always made that configuration. They'd be fools to stop that too

Ahh. That's lame. What do they have against us? It's not like it has a pistol grip and a detachable magazine!

I want a newer salvage title truck to put a strait axle under it. So i can crawl it. That would be bad.

you can still get a standard if its not SR5 or v6. but thats only online. i have to wonder if you can get all you want if you talked to the right salesman from the dealer. my dream is the reg cab 4.0 with six speed manual, rear diff lock, vinyl floor upholstery, all the basics in the cab, but built mechanically built to kill. dont want any doodads.
