please tell me what year/model this land cruiser is
I've been admiring a certain model land cruiser that I see, I'd like to know what the model is, and from what years it was produced.
I have a 2nd gen 4runner but I think that the lines of this land cruiser are just as nice! What kind of engine would this model be running, and from when to when were they produced? what is the general opinion of these vehicles? any links appreciated. I am thinking that they must be around the same year as my 2nd gen (1992-1995 or so). Are they considered better/more capable than 2nd gen 4runners or similar? Thanks!! pics attached. I think they are the same year/model but not sure.

It's a 60 series - early 1980's I think. Pretty sure mid 90's was the 80 series (which is a much better platform for 'wheeling than the 60)
Departure angle is HORRIBLE.

its an fj62
thanks for these links guys! I've found the one that I was admiring, they seem to be FJ62s. I really like the design of that cruiser. With a vortec stage 3 restoration from these guys that would be just sweet.
thanks for the tips on finding the identity of this vehicle. they're nice trucks! I still love my 2nd gen tho!

departure angle?
TC- question on the departure angle thread, what is the issue with the 60 series LC? thanks for sharing your thinking on that. Not sure exactly how departure angles work.

fj60/62 either or... look pretty damn alike. Awesome trucks imo, id take one.. theres on parked outfront this apartment right now wish it was mine.
as for offroading id rather have an fj60 than a 4runnner anyday.

Not 100% wure the first pic, but the seond pic for sure is a an FJ60. The 62 series was started in 1988 with the advent of dual headlights, among a series of other improvments.
All FJ62 (1988+) were Automatics. They still used the 3F engine, with some subtle changes.
btw Fj60/62 was built from 1984-1990 in the US market.
Myself I like the look and function of the FJ60, with the comfort of the FJ62. That would be the ultimate combo.
1992-1995 would have been an FJ-80/FZJ-80 depending on year (93+ was FZJ-80) with are coil spring front and rear with an 8" hi-pinion front and an 8.8" rear diff. 93+ Also has selectable diff lock options, though it was a fairly rare option.

A guy I know that I've been wheeling with has one. Pretty much stock FJ60 with 31" M/T's. Aside frome the crazy rear overhang and slight bulkyness, it was a damn fine off-road vehicle. Not a whole lot of ground clearance. Nothing a couple inches of lift and 33's wouldn't fix.

Yep - and with all the overhang, there's not much you can do to make it much better. Bigger tires and lift will help, but you're gonna get hung up on it a lot. Probably a big factor as to why Xtreme4x4 backhalfed theirs.

over hang or not. fj60/62 are some of the strongest off road vehicles ive ever owned, they may not be as flexy suspension as an 80 but they sure take more of a beating than an 80 plus not everyone and their grandma has one, and even without lockers as long as the tires were on the ground it would go places my trd tacoma can not. i think the 60 series landcruiser is the most underated of the landcruiser series. but after having a 60 i would say go with a 62 for the fuel injection alone.

If I were doing a land cruiser, I'd go with the FZJ80. Much more modern vehicle and interior. Stock front and rear lockers. Leather. Stronger engine. Modern EFI for trouble-free operation. When the new LX570 comes out, I'm sure these things will be dirt cheap. Right now you can buy an LX450 for less than $10k. And a FZJ80 land cruiser runs around $6-7k
It's both a blessing and a curse that they weigh 6000#. Obviously fuel economy isn't this vehicle's strong point.
Someday I want one, and I want to bob the frame for wicked departure angle. I'd also figure out a way to fit a 4-door Tundra cab onto it, and hide a winch inside the factory front bumper.
