Does anyone know where to buy plastic fuel tanks? Looking for one for my 91 Runner.

if you wheel your truck, I am not so sure a plastic tank is a good idea. Unless it's gonna sit in a metal box.

Why not? If I can shoot one with a 12 guage and it just bounces off. I think I can take a few hits from rocks and logs.

there's a difference between an instantaneous hit, and dragging it across a rock with a 2-ton truck on top

just my thoughts

I'm not asking if you think I should put one in. I'm asking if anyone knows where I can purchase one.

would you take a bullet proof truck and smash it into a brick wall at 15 mph and expect it to bounce off?

So much for trying to help the guy from wasting some money.
I don't see you getting a quality plastic tank in your truck without buying at least a plastic fuel cell. And even then I would at the very least put a non-oem skidplate under it.

I would expect it to knock the wall down.

I don't care about your opinion on the matter. I'm just looking for a place to purchase one.

i dont think a 12 gauge shot is the same as putting it between a rock and a 4000 pound vehicle... but it is a good idea to put a skid plate on it plastic or metal if you wheel

that being said the answer to your question a stock replactement would be difficult to find but if you wanted to go the fuel cell route there are tons around summit racing has some as well as autoparts warehouse

alot of boats use plastic fuel tanks might wanna try there as well

your truck came with a skid plate and metal tank from the factory... theres a reason for that.

probably should stick with what you got.

a quick google search yielded nothing except one for an fj. if you're looking for corrosion resistance, look into galvanized tanks. if you're looking for light-weight, look into aluminum tanks/fuel cells

I would run a plastic (poly) fuel cell, typically they are 1/4" think unlike an OEM replacement tank meant for a mall crawler. But I would still run a skid plate or box. OEM tanks skids on these trucks leave alot to be desired. Am I running one? no, and my OEM skid looks like it came out of Switzerland at some sort of cheese factory. Would I recommend someone else do that? no.

Yeah I know. I obviously tried looking for one on my own. That's why I came to this forum to see if someone knew of where I could find one.

Thanks for your input.

your not gonna last very long on here, go over to www.toyotanation.com if you want opinions from people who don't know how to build a safe trail rig or any trail rig for that matter, or better yet go over to pirate and giver them that attitude if you think we are bad here. Most of those guys on pirate have probably been doing this stuff longer then you've been alive and have worse responses then we have given you.

Definitally will put the source in here if I ever find one. Really just looking for corrosion resistance. I'll look into the galvanised tanks.

I think you're the only person who actually helped. Thanks again.

Alright, thats enough from the peanut gallery.

He asked WHERE to find a plastic fuel tank. No ones opinions on what he is going to do with it are relevant. If you can't constructively help, then butt out of the thread.
