Pilot bearing removal the ez way!!

I was installing new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot shaft bearing this morning. I didn't have a puller so I drove to autozone to get a loaner one. They wanted a ridiculous $160 to rent an old used puller!!!! I didn't have that much cash on me so I headed back to the house pretty ticked off!! I hopped on YouTube and found this neat little trick. I really didn't believe it work but I figured what do I have to lose. I took a piece of bread and with an old bolt that just fit inside the bearing I kept smashing bread into the middle of the bearing until the cavity was completely full then drive the bolt in with a hammer. Smash more bread in and repeat a few times and wala bearing popped right out!!!! AMAZING!!!

First I've heard of using bread for this. You can also use grease or wet paper towels.

Any health- conscious twig eater will tell you that whole grain is better than white.

they don't charge if you return the tool.

so you can save your bread...

I've used grease and candle wax. I prefer the candle wax method since it's slightly less messy, and less wasteful(clean grease has better/more important uses IMO).

But if there's nothing else, there's always bread too...I guess.

I've seen the wet paper method first hand. Although I dont think pullers are too costly in general IMO

Weve always done it with grease. That how the haynes manual says to do it.
