painting my stripes?

so the stripes on my 1st gen are very faded and if i take them off the paint will probably look like crap so i want to paint them black. i was wondering what i can use to actually keep it from peeling and coming off when washing it and such.

You could probably remove the factory stripe, and use the protected versus faded paint as your "template". Mask off, and paint away.

You could also check with James Dean Creations (he's a member, here), and see if he has the replacements for youe stripes.

If you're gonna paint anyway why not just remove the stripes?

I've taken stripes off before with a hairdrier and adhesive remover, but they weren't very old (couple years). I think it gets harder the older they get.

Hey, I found a write up a while ago but I can't find it again. It is time consuming but pretty easy. I used a hair dryer but a heat gun will work as well. I heated the corner of the stripe and with a razor blade picked up the corner. As I heated the striped I pulled it slowly. For me this only removed the stripe, there was some adhesive left which I cleaned with acetone or adhesive remover. I don't care how it looks because I am bedcoating the whole exterior. Good luck!

I remember that as well, But i dont recall if it was for the adhesive after you got it off, or the whole stripe surface...

I used a heat gun and a razor blade. Then Acetone and elbow grease. I was repainting anyway so scratches were not a major concern. They also have plastic razor blades.
