over heating problems

my thermostat is good and coolent levels are good, my friend mentiond that i could be running to lean because i have it short ramed with a cone filter on it, what would be the best route to take on this issue?

What do you have? Little more info might help. Did you do any work on it before it started overheating?

And what are the conditions that cause it to overheat? Stop-n-go, idling, hot weather, high speed, hills, etc.?
