Here are some links to see how different oil filters are constructed. I suggest that you watch all the videos.

This last link shows a Toyota filter as well as several others.

The number one question will the mfg of the filter stand behind their filter if you have a filter failure.

And it cause you to have a major engine failure.

Wix does and that is good enough for me.

Does anyone know who makes the Royal Purple Filter???

Two things. First I cannot find any written guarantee for wix to fix an engine if the oil filter fails. In fact they have a disclaimer on their racing oil filter if used in any beefed up engine http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/racing.asp . Second I seriously doubt anyone has ever collected on such a guarantee, if there is one, as it is virtually impossible to prove such a claim.
I am not saying wix is a bad filter or not to use them, just that if you are using it because you think you might be able to get your engine fixed should the filter fail it is very unlikely they would ever pay off, but that goes for any filter.
It is like engine oils. Over the years some have made the guarantee they will replace your engine if the engine fails because the oil fails to fullfill its specs. All this is nothing but selling hype. No one ever collects as it is impossible to prove the oil failed within its specs. The same with an oil filter.

Been using Fram on engines since 1985. Those same engines I have gotten over 200,000 miles, sold the cars to kids and they drove them for a year or so after that.
I really get some amusement out of these posts on oil filters. I have never seen a failure from a fram filter, Never!.
Sure you can probably come up with somebody that has seen a failure, but there is always somebody that can come up with somebody that has seen just about everything.

If I'm not mistaken, every vehicle in the driveway right not has a Fram on it. PLUS the Camaro in the Garage that makes pretty decent passes in the 8th mile. Yes I have 'em on the racing engines and been doing that for 20yrs also, and never a failure.

The proof is in the pudding kiddos.
