O/D On/Off Light Flashes

Hello all,

Can you tell me what this flashing Over Drive light on the dash means? Could it mean that the tranny is getting too hot? I am not towing anything, it looks like the tranny cooling fan is operating below max speed.

Thanks

I know this probably has nothing to do with anything... but I bought a mazda 626 the other day, got it on the interstate a couple of days later and had this same problem after a couple of hundred miles. o/d off light flashing. Pulled off at the next exit, tranny fluid everywhere, it's in the shop now. So I have no help for you, but be CAREFUL with that.

Mine flashes every now and then. Usually after driving for a bit on trips or doing a bunch of errands. When mine flashes, I usually lose 1st and/or torque converter lockup. It makes leaving a light slower, but it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it. It's got 204k on the original tranny, so I can't complain. I'm pretty sure my truck has a bad shift solenoid.

The manual says to immediately take your vehicle to the dealer if the O/D light flashes, but mine has been doing it for 5 years, and I haven't brought it to the dealer yet.

Just my $.02.
