new dd?

I have the opportunity to pick up a really cheap (and in decent shape) 2000 ford explorer. I am at heart a ford guy, but am really starting to fall for the yota.

I would use it for daily driving and keep the yota for wheeling.

you are the consumer, the driver etc. you ask about a Ford on a Toyota forum, expect to get a preferance to a toyota over a ford. Ask the same question on a Ford forum and get a reverse answer.

Do what works for you.

uhhmm..if your toyota is gettin 14mpgs...you should start figurin out why...one of my buddies has a '91 4runner 3.0 5spd 4wd..and he consistently gets around 19-20mpgs??? its on 31's with stock 4.10's and he don't drive like a grandma either LOL

im just saying you could easily get a Honda (which are actually very spacious...my sister had a early 90's civic 4 door and it was VERY comfortable and im 6'1" and 220lbs) for im sure close to the same price (what is the actual price of the explorer???) and the civic will double the mileage of that explorer..

An Explorer for $300?....

Why is he selling it for $300? Arent you a little weary about buying a crappy vehicle for a low price? Obviously it has something wrong if hes selling it so cheap.....

Plus...

.......Its an Explorer!?

What is this "explorer" you speak of? I am only familiar with the ford exploder. Perhaps you all just misspelled.

Lol @ danno,my sis has a 99 exploder and I like my 90 4Runner 100 million times better.Gotta ask yourself a question what are you getting for 300$.Unless of course you already plan on pouring money into said exploder.

yes the explorer was $300. yes it gets better gas mileage than the runner. yes it has ~60 more horses and ~75 more ft.lbs torque than the runner. yes it has minor body damage.

But you are all overlooking the underlying point! i bought it so I can take the runner off the road and mod it properly! now what?

Everyone one is saying that there has to be a catch with a $300 Explorer. Like something is wrong that will need fixing $$$

until we get proof of the explorer running and driving properly for a period of time, expect us to criticize your deceions, thats $300 that could have been into the runner

theres really no catch with the explorer. bought it off of an acquantance with a substance abuse issue. the rear quarter has a nice dent, but nothing that affects the driving at all. frames solid, tranny is recently rebuilt, motor has 160 psi min compression. I know explorers and this truck is actually much nicer than the 4runner. I will agree that I am not expecting 350k miles out of the explorer but they will hit 200k no problem. also I am not expecting it to be a trail monster like the toyota.

I simply bought a dd beater to give me the opportunity to build the runner the way i want and not have to rush things because i have to drive it to work on monday.

Is there seriously no one else that has bought a beater to dd while building there truck?
come on now!

it's just somehow your thread found a lot of trolls ...

my wife drive's a kia, I drive a cadillac. but I drive my truck when it's not down for repairs.

My wife wants me to get a bmw or something fancy to drive to work and keep the truck a project. I told her no. I'd have a very fancy driveway ornament while I drive my Toyota and all my spare tools to work.

I buy a vehicle to DD it, not a toy to smash.

I drive this to work, in a rain coat and pants ... what are you complaining about?

I had a 90 explorer I bought in 99. It got my 2 dogs around, and fit all my photo equip. For that matter I have had an 84 f150, 1987 Samurai, Jeep cherokee, all beaters. If not for them my 88 pu would have 587000 miles, instead of 287k.

That's not very nice.

So you're supporting his drug habit by taking advantage of him?
