Hey all,

Just wondering what you guys use for muffler paint? I've done a search and its seems a lot of people are saying that the high temp paint doesn't last... anyone with first hand experience?

Why would you paint your muffler? Just curious.

i only bought the aluminized muffler and they salt the road quite a bit.

Stove paint. I used that stuff on an exhaust manifold and it lasted for ever. Make sure to apply several coats.

 

Wow he actually had a good reason. Usually you ask people why they are doing *blank* thing and they respond with "oh I just though it would be cool" or something along those lines.

And i'd suggest either engine paint from walmart, or if you have the money, barbeque paint.

 

thanks for the help all, i went out to mopac and got some vht paint. seems like the drying process takes 5 days, which kind of sucks. if that doesn't work, i'll try out the bbq paint or stove paint. thanks again guys.

 

hmm... i am still curious as to painting the muffler/exhaust. i kinda like the stainless steel look myself. but if thats not the case, who is gonna see it anyways?? and if its the very end of your exhaust youre worrying about, go buy a tip for it for 15 bucks.

I know.....that's what amazed me. At first I thought it would be a dumb question...but it makes alot of sense. I actually should do this mod.

 

i live in salt lake city, utah with an abundance of salt to be had on our streets and our trucks. my last truck, i had a flowmaster cat back installed, and after 2 years of driving it, before i sold it, there where no signs what so ever of it needing any extra help in preventing cancer. i guess you get what you pay for.

 

i dont know that i would call this a "mod" just buy a good exhaust system in the first place and it wont be an issue.

 

It all rusts....my mellowtone is ok for now, but it will rust. So will the flowmaster on my Ranger. I don't care what it is....seems like everything metal will rust, period.

 

I think they can rust from the inside out due to the H2O in the exhaust sitting in the low spots of the system too.

 

Bingo! That is why, primarily, exhaust systems rust. Combination of water and corrosive compounds-- on the inside.

Pour some paint into the gas tank, it'll coat the pipe on the way out

 

You shouldn't say that because somebody will do it!
