well i checked some other places and am still looking for other shops. so far the minimum is $120 taxes included so thats at least getting lower compared to $200 not including tax. I think im just goin to get my pads changed and then either trun the rotors (depending on any lower prices) or just get new ones later when these ones go.

 

Guys seriously, changing pads and rotors is REALLY easy. Surely you have a friend or family member that can help you along. Like Jamie said, the rotors literally fall off when you pull the calipers. Not trying to pressure those of you into doing something you don't want to do, but why not buy the tools needed and download the TIS PDF instead of taking it to some crappy shop?

 

I used to be afraid of doing brakes and payed out the ass to have them done on both my old ranger and accord. Then one day a friend from work showed me how easy it is to do disc brakes. Once you know how to do it you will never pay anyone to do it again. A month ago I replaced the rotors and pads on my accord for less than $90 and it only took about an hour.

I could of machined the old rotors for about $20 but when new rotors only cost $21 a piece its hard to justify.

funny enough no. my girlfriends dad has a huge garage for his transports but gettin in isnt easy as its usually packed 24hrs.

 

maybe ill take a day off work and go to one of those places where you can rent inside bays to fix your vehicle at.

 

How about a parking garage? Are they heated there?

ya phoenix would be ideal for do-it-yourself stuff. I froze my hands off last night just putting winter wiper blades on so doing this outside wouldnt be the best. I think im just goin to get my pads thrown on on monday at the stealership since the price is quite reasonable and its only a block away, and then ill hunt for rotors and just try and get in at my gf's dads shop when i can....or i will drive to phoenix and use your driveway!

 

Only -20, I thought you were a little tougher than that in Thunder Bay

 

ya i agree -20 its still "mild" than what it could be...It was only about -5 on average and then WHAM -20. Not much of a nice slow steady pace to get adjusted. But I have learned things tend to break and go wrong in the cold so I dont mess with crap if i know all it will do is stink!

 

So you'll have to do it a bit faster then! LOL

I feel your pain though!

You must have at least one friend with a garage at their house who'd let you pull the nose of the truck into. The worst part in -20 C is the wind (just dress warm and wear insulated work gloves) In that type of weather I wouldn't worry about turning the rotors, just slap on a new set of pads that will get you by until summer. It would seriously take me about 15 min max per side to change on a bad day (taking the lugs off by hand and without doing the rotors). Remember to hit all the caliper bolts with WD40 or PB blaster to make it easy to get them loose even with tons of rust on em.
