Low oil pressure!!

Ok so this morning on mydrive to school, I noticed that oN the freeway, my engine was spinning around 3k rpm and the oil pressure guage was about half way up, even around 4k rpm it wouldn't move. My guage actually dropped a little when steady at 3k rpm. Where should a normal 3zve oil pressure show? I'm kinda concerend cuz I have to drive probably another 40 highway miles today before I can check it out.

Edit* I've searched but I really don't have time to search around for info cuz I have class from 8-2 with no break today

Mines not that high and I know it's ok, so yours should be fine.

I have the same problem with my 22re. If I accell fast, MY oil pressure gauge shows the pressure build slowly and stop before half-way. If I accel slowly, it usually climbs to about the needle width below the 2nd mark, but not always. If I cruise around for more than 30 minutes, it always shows pressure to be around 1/3 or less on the gauge. Never had this kind of problem with my '93 22re. It concerns me sometimes, because I have some kind of knock/slap at cold start-up.

Get a mechanical oil pressure gauge from the parts store and see wha the actual numbers are, and compare them with the FSM specs.

You also need to get an oil temperature gauge.
The pressure is only valid (to compare with the FSM for instance) when the oil is up to temperature, which is 212* F (100*C).

The golden rule of thumb is 10 psi of oil pressure per 1000 RPM of engine speed.
NOTE: this is only when the oil is up to temp.

Just run the truck to normal operating temp and then check.

4.3psi at idle, 36-75psi at 3k rpm, according to the 93 FSM

The gauge in my 88 isnt very responsive.

my oil pressure has dropped lately

i did my first oil change after the rebuild of my 22r (1000 mile) and before i did the oil change i would have about 35psi at idle, and at 3k rpms and above i would have well over 50psi

but after the change it idles at around 10psi and at 3K its at about 25psi-30psi

idk why it would have dropped??? i used the exact same brand and weight of oil
i have a mechanical gauge too..and i know its correct..

it runs just fine like it did before (well..as good as a motor can run with a bad carb on it..lol)..sometimes it just kinda worries me when im sittin in traffic and i look at my gauge and it's readin 10psi..haha when im used to seeing 25-35psi at idle lol

im running castrol dino oil 10w-30

of course when my oil temp is cold its runnin 50psi at idle and 75-90psi at 3k and 4500 rpms..

sorry about the thread jack!

I noticed this too after a fresh oil change, and new PVC valve.

I constantly check my oil and I know its full so I try not to worry.
