the pads look fine. the rotors are rustier than hell. but i put plugs in, and shes not firing. compression is 150ish in each cylinder. them vacuum lines are pissin me off. ive replaced some, but not all. i cant read the vacuum diagram too well. i put 6 gallons of gas in the gas tank, and no fire.(though the gauge reads half ful). put some gas directly into the carb. no fire. havent checked the spark yet, but thats my next step. i gotta replace the spark plug wires anyway, canvas is showing. anyone got ne ideas? or even better, anyone in the sd area willin to help me out gettin it to run?

I think you're on the right track. Make sure you have spark. Is the distributor turing when you crank it (take the cap off to see)? In a pinch I've checked for spark by unfloding a paper clip, jamming it into the plug wire boot and holding it close to an engine ground while some one cranks the car. Use some insulated pliers to hold the boot or you'll get shocked! lol trust me

Did you drain the gas then add more?

drained it the best i could, it only had a gallon or so in it. drained out maybe half of it, and put 9 gallons of new gas in it. i put new plug wires on, and i am getting spark. its kind of hard to see, but i see it sparkin. in fact my buddy got shocked by it lol. im really tempted to hgave it towed up to my mechanic out here and have him finish it up. grrr the things makin me mad lol. here are a couple pics

So its getting spark but just not running? DId you try some starting fluid? Did you try taking off the air cleaner and seeing if the choke is stuck closed or something? Spray some starting fluid into the carb with the air cleaner off.

Is there fuel getting to the carb? I second the ether suggestion to help it, but you need to make sure there aren't any fuel delivery issues. And if you get too much fuel (flooded), just hold the gas pedal to the floor and crank it to clear it out.

havent messed with it m,uch lately, im thinking its prob not starting due to some vacuum lines bein broken on the bottom side of the engine, and i havent worked up the courage to go under there myself and hang out with spiders and pincher bugs yet. one of these days though, prob friday.

gee, very supportive rusty, in these days of 4.00 a gallon, id rather be driving an accord that gets 25+ to the gallon. plus, i couldnt sell it for much, considering it doesnt RUN! some advice for you: sell that pos ford and put it into your toyota. dont get me wrong, i love my truck and wont be gettin rid of it, but it wont be my daily driver for long.

Gas will turn to a varnish in a carb if left to sit for a long period. You may not be getting gas to the cylinders for that reason.

update: when it cranks, you can smell gas. so im thinking its a super clogged fuel filter. someone i talked to about it said the timing chain may be broken, but its cranking normally, not making valve noise, but i dont know how much clearence is in the engine. so as of now im using the KISS strategy(keep it simple stupid) working from easy things to the timing chain. next time im up there im gonna pull the oil cap off and have my buddy crank it to see if theres any movement from the valves. thats my progress so far. im really regretting buyin that thing, it took up a LOT more money than i thought it would. will update once i do some more work on it

For what its worth, I suspect if someone had run it for 5 minutes once a month, it would still be running today. Nobody makes better engines than Honda... nobody.
