jerry can

My 88 4runner has an aftermarket rear bumper with tire carrier. It is a well built bumper and has a place for a jerry can. There is one there and it's labeled water and looks clean, but I don't think I will ever need to carry water or gas in it. Any suggestions on what I can use that mount for? I think it would look weird without the jerry can, but it seems silly to carry an empty jerry can that I won't ever use.

Um, pics? Man I have a dual can carrier that's always empty. It currently holds my licence plate

carry water. You never know when you'll need water and not have it. Maybe a fire? maybe helping someone who overheated? Maybe you get thirsty?

carry gas, I don't know about you, but I always have water on board to drink so I can use that if water is needed for the radiator

I would carry two jerry can's of Water & one of Gas. I'd keep the Gas on the bumper and the water in the Rig. You can strap the Water cans together and use tie-downs or bunjee's to keep them secure.

Running out of Gas sucks, but do that w/o a good supply of Water and you've just intensified the situation Tenfold.

This is a daily driver, not an expedition rig. It will hit trails, but none that are in the desert or more than a day.

Nice. I have one on my 2nd gen. Half the time it is empty just waiting for me to put my jerry can back into it. What ever you do, don't get rid of it...that's probably when you will find a use for it. Lot of people wish they had one.

OP: just curious what hinge kit that is, have heard of some failures when using a trailer axle hinge kit..I have quit using my swing out until I can convert to a double shear style hinge (two pivot points)

I think it's too expensive to justify my rare use.
