Jack stands

Anyone have a recommendation for some nice affordable but most importantly tall and stable jack stands. I have a set of 3tons from oriellys and just want something with a wider base that's a bit more stable.

Look in some 4 WD magazines. There is a coupon in some of them in the Harbor freight adds for the 6 ton jackstands. They go up to 22 or 24". Have a nice wide base, they are normally like $70/pair. Coupon is for $30. I have 3 sets of them, love them..

I will second the Harbor Frieght orange jack stands. Very affordable and tall.
The 3 ton is enough to keep my truck, which is on 35's with 2-3" of lift, off of the ground.
Harbor Frieght doesn't make a lot if things very well, but their jack stands hold up great.
I'll be picking up a pair of the huge 6 ton models when I SAS.

Scuba, the 12 tons might be a good idea too. I have a pair of those too...they extend out to 30" but the foot print in huge. But extending them all the way out and it supports the truck right on the frame, nice when swapping front or rear axles..

Maybe I have my numbers mixed up on which ones I have. I might already have the 6 tons.
I want the biggest ones they have for my SAS.

x2 on the Harbor Freight jack stands. I have the 94 on the 3 ton ones I bought this year and no problems. I replaced the old ones that I had that didn't work as they should have. Plan on buying a couple sets of the 6 ton ones as well so I don't have to put a block of 4x4 on top of the stands...at half price with the coupon.

Dave I hear you on the HF stuff but it amazes me at where I see their jack stands in professional fab shops, a lot of threads on pirate and elsewhere. Their sale prices really can't be beat for the quality, which is far above their other stuff.
I buy their grinders on sale an am happy if I get two years out of them. The price allows me to a different one for a grinding disk, flapper wheel and cut off wheel. I am old and lazy.

Anyway here is a comparison shot of my jackstands

3 ton, 6 ton (24" fully extended) & 12 ton (29" extended)

I have the harbor freight ones too. Work great and you can't beat the price with coupons. You can usually find them online too.

I have too many as it is. I like my otc ones. I trust em.

I have HF stuff too...never said it was all bad...but alot of it is.

When it comes to jackstands...I personally would feel safer with my otc.

I over do jackstands anyways. The thought of getting pinned under my ride is always on my mind.

Didnt say they would break...but I have seen HF welds up close and personal...and Im not impressed.

I have two sets of HF orange 12 ton jack stands. Never felt like they were unsafe. Probably just as important is how and where you place jack stands determine how stable(safe) the vehicle will be.

Haa...yea I hear ya Drop. At the price you buy those grinders and other electrical tools at, they are throw aways. At that price, if you get a few years out of it, it's paid for itself.

I can't speak for the quality of the OTC stands but I would assume not all their stuff is Made in USA. Maybe the older stuff...like a lot of other stuff as well. I don't have a problem buying made in the USA, but I'm not a professional mechanic using the stuff all the time. So while sometimes finding made in the USA tools is getting harder to find, sometimes you can't afford it.

Yea man no prob. I got it out of the Feb. 2014 Diesel Power magazine. It's good until 4/24/14. I'm sure it's in other mags as well. If you sign up for email from Harbor Freight, they send you coupons there also.
