Well things with the hg swap were going to easy.
Of all sucky things....rounded off the last headbolt.


Im open for suggestions.

Ahhh sears bolt out. Imma run up and get one after bit. Glad I thought of it.

well.....the bolt outs are not working. Not biting.
Imma drill it out enough to get the head off here after bit.

Guess the machine shop will have to deal with it. Crap!

 

if you have access to a welder, you can set a larger nut over it and weld the inside of the new nut to the rounded bolt head.

 

I had this issue before, I don't know if this is a good solution but it worked

I cut off the very top of the head bolt, yes CUT it off!!

Then I took some OTC stud remover sockets, this set: http://www.amazon.com/OTC-6987-Sting...5847494&sr=8-1

Threw a 1/2 ratchet on there with a cheater bar, and it came off

 

usually vice grips are the way to go with rounded heads, but probably not a good idea on a head bolt. you can grind or file down the sides until you can fit a smaller size wrench on it. by the way how did you round a head that big? im guessing either using a 12-pt socket, the wrong size or sae? word of advice, never use 12 pt sockets (or even buy them for that matter) and sae sizes might fit close but since they are not exact rounded heads are bound to happen. good luck!

 

Yes please tell us all how one rounds off a headbolt.

If you can cut the rounded bolt head off and remove the head there are all kinds of ways to remove the rest of the bolt

 

this probably isnt as good as other ideas you got, and my dad used to do it so its probably old and outdated,but it always worked for me...just find a size smaller and beat it on to the rounded bolt, the hardest part is getting the bolt out the socket once its off.

Now.... I have a snapon socket set just for these headbolt types. Background story first.

A few years ago I was doing some headgaskets on a 1997 Mustang with a 4.6. I was busting the headbolts loose and then it happened. I let the ratchet slip, resulting in me punching the opposing head like a heavywieght boxer.
I had a serious cut across three fingers.between the first and second knuckles....you know where it really hurts.

So...I was busting these head bolts loose and at the last second on the last bolt...i had a flashback of bloody knuckles... i let the breaker bar kinda tilt and rounded the mofo off. I geeked it. At least I didnt punch the head again.

So between bolt outs...a drill...some extractors...I got it.
Worked it and worked it...then it just spun out...like it wasnt even tight.

 

Just find a piece of flatbar and weld it onto the bolt. If the flatbar won't get it, the heat should break it loose anyways.

 

I dont know if it would work on a head bolt, but use a grinder to cut a slot in the head of the bolt, then use a big fing screwdriver, one that wont strip the deep slot you put in it. Works like a charm.

Its even better if you get the screw drivers with the "nut" part on them so that you can turn it with a wrench.

 

I snapped two 3vze headbolts rebuilding once. Those you can only use 12 points on. Anyway, the heads snapped off so that, of course, the shoulder was still keeping the head on the block. I had to drill and drill and drill until I got past the shoulder and could slide the head up off the bolts. Then, just used some vice grips to get them out. Wasn't hard as all of the tension was off.
