insurance rates
Is anyone elses insurance rates going up for no reason? I've been with my current provider for about 2 years now and every 6 months the rate goes up and up. Is it because the truck is aging and becoming a collectors vehicle (heh, yeah, not mine.)?
I should also add that I have never been in an accident, never gotten a ticket (been pulled over twice for having a headlight out, but that was years ago.) Not a single incident on my record. But my rates keep going up.
I'm asking in this forum section because I'm looking for specific year ranges. Are older vehicles going to pay more for insurance?

i pay 54.00 a month for my 81 toyota pick up and my 86 4runner together, i am 20 year old male and have one speeding ticket on my record, granted i only have the bare minimum for california. and i have been paying the same amount, since i signed up, 3 years ago. (actually went down a few bucks recently)
i would call your insurance company and see what they have to say.

I'd call and talk to them and if they don't want to play, start shopping around.

I figured something was up. I can get a quote for a new plan from my current provider and it's $15 cheaper than what I'm paying, so something fishy is going on. I've just been too lazy to cancel my policy and start a new one, again. I've already done it once to save money, but twice is too much. Might as well switch providers.

You know you don't have to wait for your policy to expire, right?

Absolutely, you are under no contract to continue using that company just because you started the policy on a certain date. Even if you paid for the whole year they will reimburse you. Pay attention to this refund if you have a small office broker as they have tried some shady things with me in the past.
My rates just went down at AAA for no reason but that they just lowered everybody's rates. Some more than others. It was a pleasant and unexpected suprise.

I'm 19 years old. my driving record is as is...
1 speeding ticket - 3 days after I got my license, 55 in a 45.
3 car accidents - Totaled Integra, Van T - boned me ( My fault, didn't yield )
Buick regal clipped my tire and caused damage to my fender ( 50/50 )
Backed into a honda civic, severe damage to the hood ( my fault )
I have state farm, full coverage. 100/300. and my insurance is $298 and some change a month in a 92 4runner.

There's a cold wind coming
Duperman, you live in northern CO and the insurance industry knows there is a mini-iceage coming. They are anticipating the severe winters ahead. It could happen!

Here is my issue. Never an accident...But I have gotten 3 speeding tickets in the past YEAR!!! I paid 464.00 for an entire YEAR I never pay montly either 6months of 12months one lump sum. I am very worried it WILL indeed be going up. I dont even drive fast they were all in 25mph trap zones I was going 32 in one 38 and 39 in the others. They are all 2points each totalling a whopping 6 outch well see how much my cheapest quote will be Collision only on an 894runner. I'm hopping under 550$ for the year... what do yall think?

To an insurance company, your truck is worth jack, so not a huge % of the premium is based on the cost of your vehicle. The other % is damage you're going to do to yourself, to others and property.
The reasons rates are going up is because either a) people are crashing more often b)the cost of settling claims has gone up etc

I had such a bad driving record through the '90s and lost my license twice but I was over 25 and had 1 accident and the highest my insurance ever got for my '93 AWD/Turbo Eclipse was $190 full coverage and that was with 11 speeding tix from '93-'01;it was cheaper to speed back then since now I definelty couldn't afford it.
With my 4Runner I have two tickets in 3 years and I pay $70/month full coverage and a $250/250 deductible.

INS. rates around here are slated to go up an average of 9.1% this year on top of a 6% increase they were allowed earlier this year... one company has permission to jack it's rates 15.1%. they say it is because of the increased costs of treatment for minor injuries such as strains/sprains. I say it's because people are getting more wussified... when I got rear ended I had a stiff back and neck for several weeks but I sucked it up and dealt with it... I did not go crying to a massage/physio therapist about my aches and pains... Most folks are just too soft these days...
I'm paying about 125.00/mo for almost full coverage. right now... thank god I may be moving soon to a cheaper area.

It also may be a function of the area you live in. When I lived in central downtown Grand Rapids, I paid $40/month more for the same car, same insurance than I did after moving 12 miles southeast, just outside of the city limits (which is strange, because I was driving FARTHER to work, thereby exposing myself and the vehicle to a higher risk of incident). Has there been an upswing in vehicle-related criminal activity? Maybe a rash of vandalism or thefts? Other sorts of crime that might drive up the "dangerous area" factor? Or, perhaps the insurance agent/company has decided that they aren't interested in dealing with people who bring less than a certain $ amount of business, or want to go in a different direction entirely- drive up the costs to get people to go away, rather than just dropping the axe on the entire group of policy holders at once.
