improving my 3vz engine

i looked through the threads and couldnt really find what i was looking for. debates about the 3vz engine and trash talk. yes, id love to do the 22r swap on my wifes 94 4runner but dont really have the funds so after i do the top end rebuild cause its got 200k for miles and smokes like cheech and chong. what can i do to improve the engine and make it preform better without having to do annual rebuilds. she loves to get her rig deep int he mud but i have a laundry list of work to do before hand. any and all guidance is welcome and very much appreciated.
thanks all.

probably would help if i included what the heck i was talking about. its a 94 4runner with the 3vz-e engine. both head gaskets are blown and i wanna do the top end rebuild so it will last her muddy abuse and i really wanna avoid any risk since she usualy transports our daughter in it too.

Would be good to put headers or do a crossover elimination to the exhaust, will help with the head gaskets.

If your doing a top end rebuild you should also have your injectors redone

Look up witchhunter injectors or something like that, I think it was like 25 an injector last time I had mine done.

thats really cheap considering i cant find oem injectors for under $90 at walk in price. i was curious if you can do that stupid cross pipe elimination. i was told by a toyota dealership tech i had to replace the water pump and timming belt. i always change the belt if i remove it just to be safe but is there any truth to the water pump statement? if you wouldnt mind confirming the injector name id be much appreciative.

Water pump is easy if yor already doing the belt, the water pump doesn't fail that often, but would he good maintenance especially if your doing the belt.
Cheap piece of mind.

I'm putting headers on mine. They are expensive, but hopefully well worth it. In the process right now.

Should also put all new coolant hoses, and do the normal plugs, wires, cap and rotor

No, search crossover elimination, have to cut and weld. Or spend the cash for headers. Will be easier since you can remove crossover with heads off.
