I am replacing the head gasket on my 22re engine (91 4Runner SR5), and I want to clean the cylinder head and manifolds up. Is there a cleaner/solvent or technique anybody has used with success for this type of work?

Just get some solvent or mineral spirits and a good parts cleaning brush and go for it, also a wire wheel (the kind you put in a drill) works very well for cleaning the valves.
