it just snowed here so i've had to drive in 4WD most of the time and im getting terrible mpg's. im getting around 150 miles on a full tank so i was wondering if this is normal and if its not what i should do.... possibly change all the fluids like diffs and t/c.

 

I just chalk it up to being normal when in 4WD on my truck. There is more drag on the engine and drivetain loss.

i was in and out of four wheel on my last tank of gas and i got about 245 to the tank...thats with all the donuts, the wind drifts we drove thru, etc...if i was in four wheel the whole time i would expect around 200...

 

x2 when i drive around in the woods in 4wd my gas mileage sucks

 

hmm maybe its a 3rd gen thing

 

i think its more along the lines of a 4wheel drive thing...

 

What does diff or t-case fluid have to do with your ÅÅÅÅty MPG in 4wd?

 

in my truck (94 4runner 3.0lt V6) around town i get about 200-250km (125-160miles) per tank, and on the open road about 400-450km (250-280miles), my truck drinks like it goin out of fasion.

and its a real 4wd thing cause if your gettin great fuel econemy it aint a real 4x4

 

The benefit from changing the diff fluids may be negligible, but the idea behind it is fresh fluid=less resistance=slightly better mileage.

 

So slight you won't even notice it.

 

In and out of 4 wheel all this week basically, I got about 14mpg instead of the usual 15-17mpg out of my t100. Your full turning and applying power to alot more than the 1 wheel on the rear-thats why it eats gas.

 

it's better to be wasting gas at 4wd than spinning your tires at 2wd.

 

150 seems a bit low since even using 4wd alot around here lately I still see over 200 with my norm a city and some highway with my leadfoot I get 230-250 a tank.

 

i have 141k miles on that fluid so changing it would probably do something

 

wel boys i wish i could get your 240mpt (miles per tank) cause i get 4-5mpg!!! yeah thats right oh and thats in 2wd i dont even wanna know whats its like in 4wd!!!but you gotta go and play sometime right?
