gas quality (searched)

Hey everyone,
I'm on the other side of the country driving around and they have different brands of gasoline versus what I am used to on the west coast. Can anyone sort out what gas is better quality versus stuff that is crap?
The stations near where I am staying are Wawa, BP, Sunoco, Getty, Lukoil, Giant, and Shell (the only west coast brand out here)

Thanks,
J

BP or shell, I've heard of Sunoco and wouldn't put it past them since I fill up with whatever is around (usually walmart, kroger, or citgo). BP uses Amaco fuels and in my opinion thats always been the best. I've never heard of the other ones...where are you anyways?

Right now I'm in Philadelphia.

I've actually heard of BP, but they used to be called British Petroleum (I think?), now they call themselves Beyond Petroleum or something like that, and have a flower as a symbol. Never used them before 'cause none in SoCA.

I'm curious about the gas because the Wawa (a convenience store like 7 Eleven) is always really busy --- i.e. fresh gas --- and they have pretty good prices, but is their gas like Arco gas back home (In other words, lower on the totem pole.)? The BP station is like a ghost town in comparison, but only a few cents more per gal.

Btw, I would rank the gas back home: Chevron, Mobil/Shell, 76, Exxon, Arco/Costco.

I find myself to be pretty meticulous, but not enough to test different brands of gas to see what is best, Theres another thread about the gas brands, but it hasn't be very conclusive yet.

gas is gas.... belive it or not. I have seen a tanker truck drop fuel at a Royal Farms, then drive across the street to a Shell station. I run whatever is cheapest and use a good fuel injector cleaner about once every oil change.

I was of the "gas is gas" crowd. I buy Costco gas. Been buying it for years. Also been fighting a miss/lean backfire on my DD (its a Taurus). I saw a Chevron close by that had a really good price, so filled up (like 4 cents more than Costco). Wow!, no miss. Next fill at Costco, miss/backfire is back. Next fill at Chevron, smooth!!!!!!

There is a service bulletin at my work about "top tier gasolines". These are gasolines that excede the federal minimum requirements for gas. The top tier standards were developed by TOYOTA (of course!), BMW, Honda, and General Motors.

The list of Top Tier Gas: (was short list before, now longer)

Chevron
Shell
76
Phillips 66
Conoco
Quiktrip
Entec
Kwik Trip
MFA oil co. at Break Time convenience stores
Somerset Oil

I had the same experience. I started using costco gas and noticed a miss on acceleration. I couldn't figure out what the hell was causing it. Filled up at Chevron and it was gone. I've used nothing but Chevron ever since.

i try to always run Chevron gas. when i can't find a Chevron, I'll go for a 76 or Shell. I won't use Arco gas unless it's an absolute emergency (ie. don't have enough gas to make it to the next Chevron)
